Taking a Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Television to Cali.

Has anybody taken an expensive TV past customs in Cali?

What's the tax?

I hear colombianos get a break on bringing TV's back.
What about cedula holding gringos?

The TV that I purchased costs about twice as much in Cali.

Flatscreen TV I brought a 17" small flat screen accross customs, as long as it fits in your luggage. I never had to open my suitcases in Cali.

Yes.... The only catch is with DVD players.

South America is DVD Zone 4 and the US is DVD Zone 1 so you need to make sure your DVDs match your DVD players (or get a universal DVD player).

TV and DVD DVD players are cheap in Cali. You can pick one up for about a hundred bucks.

The LCD TV I want to bring has a 36" screen so in won't fit in any luggage. I would save about $1500 by bringing it to Cali minus any taxes and the airline charge for over sized luggage.
