T-Mobile in Bogota and Barranquilla

After 15 years without visiting Colombia my wife (Colombian), my son (US Citizen) and me (Colombian), we are planning to spend two weeks in Barranquilla and one week in Bogota, and I wanted to know if I have T-Mobile here in the US will I be able to receive and make phone calls from Colombia? I just want to have the phone in case of an emergency, if anyone knows about this please let me know, thanks.

i am a t-mobile guy back in the usa. yes, you can use your t-mobile phone here IF you are subscribed to their "international" plan.

- the rates are ridiculous. call to t-mobile to find out the current rates.

- also, i believe they charge you international rates even if someone leaves a voicemail (if the phone is turned ON at the time of the call).

ietk, just call TMobile and tell them to turn on International roaming. It does not cost anything extra to have that feature turned on. Making/receiving calls/voicemails will cost $2.99/minute.

They said I couldn't play football I was too small / They say I couldn't play basketball I wasn't tall / They say I couldn't play baseball at all / And now everyday of my life I ball.

i believe t-mobile was going to charge me something like $4.99 per month for the international calling feature, but that was over 2 years ago.

either way, plan to get clipped pretty good if you actually use the minutes.

On the flip side if you have COMCELL here in Colombia YOU WILL BE ROAMING on TMOBILE in the USA.

I just got back from a trip with connections that put me in 6 major cities. I was roaming on TMOBILE in every city. It was not cheap, but it did come in handy with all the delays from snow and rain storms.

Comcell realized that turning international roaming on for all cell phones with a plan was a good money maker.

It's not cheap to use your cell pone on international roaming, but it works great if your in a jam!

Snowed in in Chicago, or STUCK IN MIAMI because AMERICAN AIRLINES CANCELS your flight because not enough people are coming to medellin..... just a couple of my favorites

tejasmarcos,

I had my phone on in Colombia and got billed for incoming calls, even though I did not pick up. I was using the phone as a clock. AT&T was cool, they removed the charges.

tejasmarcos says on Apr 7, 2008, 13:44:

yep. if the phone is turned on and it rings, it has to come through a switch to do so. when the people leave you a message, they charge you for the minutes. been there, done that....

Yes T mobile works, it uses comcel towers. but at $1.50 a minute it is much cheaper to go prepaid or use that thousands of "minutos" people.

Smile if you are a thinker!

tmobile sucks if you travel to colombia...I even called before our trip and asked if my phone would work, they said yes but it was like 2.99 a minute...fine I thought if I really need it then I will use it....it lost signal out of Miami and never worked until got back to the US. Why they didn't tell me when I called that I needed to subscribe to international plan as tex stated...theyretardardo's
