I fly out to El Dorado via MDE first thing Monday morning. I am now JUST starting packing.
I will be in 'el techo del mundo' from aug 15- sept 22, barring trips to tierra caliente, or sudden disappearance for one reason or another ;P
By the time the trip is over we will see if my initial observation about Bogota being a very arts-oriented city is correct or not. I will also get to see if my abilities are competitive with the local professional musicians.
This trip will be in every sense a real-world trip. I'm staying with my GF who is living with her roomate and her kid in an Estrato 4 neighborhood. Last time, we were both on vacation and went everywhere on a whim, had a hotel room off of 1 de mayo etc. This time, she will be hustling and I will be hustling.
I am also planning to keep a mock budget, where I compare our expenses down there against what she and I bring in by the sweat of our brows. I am leaving some expenses out of it related to things I've been saving up for here to do there (tailor made suits for use up here, laser hair removal) but all our eating, partying, getting around, internet, rent etc will be in the budget. I intend to stay in the black even if it means walking 5 miles home from gigs at 4am.
By the time the trip is done we will have some good hard data to discuss the difference between being a musician in Bogota, New York, and Toronto.
