Switzerland Asks Colombia to Stop Harassing Swiss Mediator

By Marc Wolfensberger

If you can't stand the heat, don't be an ambassador. Or get really rich and buy an ambassadorship (massive campaign contributions) to a country that doesn't matter and where no difficult work is required.

Tinto, Jean-Pierre Gontard is not an ambassador.

Apparently, the Colombian government believes that he is the so called "reliable source" of the Swiss media that alleged a $20 million ransom was paid to Cesar, which would better explain the “harassing".

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

OK, but the stories I've read describe him as a diplomat, an employee of the Swiss government. Baseless harassment is one thing, but he's fair game for an investigation given his previous negotiating work with the FARC.

"OK, but the stories I've read describe him as a diplomat, an employee of the Swiss government" not according to Swiss Embassy:

"the Swiss Embassy in Bogotá has prudently taken its distance from the Swiss professor: Gontard performed valuable services as a mediator, a communiqué notes, but he was never an employee of the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA)."

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!
