Hope this isn't too banal a question, but planning first trip to Bogota. Going to visit friend, but want it to be a surprise because I'm supposed to be coming a little later than I plan.
My question has to do with a safe taxi ride or other transportation to his apartment. I've heard that just hopping into any cab is not a good idea because they may or may not be actual cab drivers. Or is this not true at airports, only on streets?
Is there another alternative? How would i go about doing this?
My spanish is limited. I can get around, but no one would ever think i wasn't a gringo and probably could be taken advantage of fairly easily.
Would love any ideas.

juli says on Jan 9, 2008, 13:33: Write down the address and hand it to the driver or the dispatcher. THere is a fixed rate for the cab ride. Find out what it is beforehand. The taxis at the airport are safe enough. The streets are a different thing. Watch your luggage in the airports CEO Fajardo´s Fan Club, Medellín, Colombia 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

JSM says on Jan 9, 2008, 13:46: Yes, after exiting the terminal i believe if you go to the end on the right (facing away from the building) there is a window that you tell your destination to and they give you a slip with an expected fare and a line of legit taxis are right there. I recommend NOT getting into a taxi that would take you without that slip. Note that in Bogota at night there might be a surcharge at night or festivals, usually only a thousand peso extra (US 50 cents).

jack_jason says on Jan 10, 2008, 09:09: You can get any taxi at the airport; the police over there check every single taxi licence and the drivers. How ever, it could be a nice surprise for your friend if you arrived at the entrance of your friend's home; he/she opens the door and finds a naked man in front of it, without luggage and not wallet. That can be a funny surprise!. Do not forget to say…..SURPRISE! This is just spanglish, please do not correct me 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
