Eye Surgery in Colombia I had eye surgery this week here in Medellin, Colombia. I had numerous tests prior to laser surgery. My primary doctor is a "Research Fellow at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. (USA) See below link.

I was treated for a Retinal Artery Occlusion in the right eye. Unfortunately I had extensive damage to the eye and not much could be done. I was however very satisfied with all my doctors and their professional attitude. (I was more than a number to them)

The doctors fee for the laser surgery was 1,000,000 COP including follow-up and 220,000 COP for the laser equipment. The doctors all had the latest equipment and they weren't shy about asking for a second opinion. I had a total of six doctors over the course of two weeks.
The total cost including laser surgery was 2,620,000 COP or about $1,180 USA.

I would not hesitate to seek medical treatment in Colombia. I had the option of using the V.A. hospital in the U.S. at no charge, but elected to pay the full price here in Colombia. My prior experiences with the U.S. Veterans hospital system has not been good.

The below site contains very good research information about eye problems.

Heyyyyy kiki This is Sonnie....your american friend in Medellin that is now well enconced within Bogota.

Did you ever make it back to the states??

I had my surgery here in Bogota.....it has been a painful recovery. The hospital was fine and the doctor was fine and I saved myself a pile of money. However, I am on a long road to recovery.

I didn´t have electric beds; they were rollups. The bathroom was not the most modern.....however I saved myself about 80% over the cost in the states.

My overall rating: two thumbs up!!!!

Without starting some pissing contest, Columbia is just the american way of writing Colombia. I notice most people spell Iraq, Iraq! Are they wrong by writing this instead of Irak?

There are so many things called Columbia in the states that it becomes a matter of habit and not a question of linguistic purity.

K....take my new private email, and tell me how you are doing!
