Surfing in Colombia

Any other surfers out there?

Is there anywhere in Bquilla or Prado Mar to rent a board? When I bring my own gear to Colombia I get charged for EACH LEG of the flight. So it ends up costing about $300 to get boards RT'ed, and Avianca or whomever just beats the hell out of them. So I'd like to rent a board this time. Specifically a longboard. I guess I could store on there, too.

Driving from Bquilla to Cartagena I saw this incrdible right breaking for what looked like +200 yards, and cleeeeeeeean (this was in January). We didn't have time to stop. Later my wife told me it was a place called Santa Veronica. She also told me it was sharky. How she'd know that beats me. Anyway, has anyone been here? Is there any sort of road access off the highway? Is this private property or "public"?

I'm also looking for any tips about waves in Providencia or San Andres; How to get out to the waves, where to go, where to stay, etc.

Thanks for any help!

Try this link Mr Superior Surf

Try this link for surfing spots and maybe some shops that may rent boards. http://www.wannasurf.com/spot/South_America/Colombia/Caribbean/index.html

I found it is easier to just keep a board in Bogota and then take it with me to Santa Marta. I have heard the swells on the Pacific side are really nice, but it is not a safe place to surf yet. Maybe in another 4 years it will be better.

I haven't surfed the Pacific side but I did fish it last year-the swells are great and there are no outstanding safety concerns.

In fact intrepid surfers have never stopped going to Bahia Solano, when doing Internet research on coastal Nuqui many of the references were from surfers who wouldn't be cowed.

Nuqui I'm an Irishman, so the Pacific coast is off limits to me. I understand you can take a boat from Choco to Nuqui and from Nuqui to wherever(El Cantil, etc.), but at SOME point you have to take a 30 minute drive through the jungle. Yeah. My wife's not too into that that idea. She's hard-core, and she doesn't reccomend going unless you have dark(er) skin, dark hair, etc. Someday. I'll wait a few years.
