surfing in Colombia?? cannot find wax!!!! [bring your own] looking point near Buenaventura

Colombia is the best country i have ever been in,[well Thailand is my fav, as i am Buddhist, but no waves] i want to go back, but i am committed to return to El Salvador, where i moved to in 94, to work with the fishermen was in Buenaventura 4 times on business, last year, fish biz, did not get to Juan Chaco, and no fish, they need help but i was told there are some great breaks, and looking at the maps, i can imagine, I was near there ,long time ago, Ecuador Esmeraldas,[HOT!!] and santa catarina, panama in 84, i hope to be going back, maybe to work in Tumaco with the fishermen, got to be great waves!!! it would be pretty strange being probably the only surfer in Colombia on the pacific side, did a littlein san Andres, but not the same, Caribe side. not as big or powerful and certinaly not as consistent
anyone know of a good right point near Buenaventura, BY name
alguines sabe si hay olas cerca de Buenaventura??
mu amable
and as Bubba Johnson say'z
"eat mo' fish"!

Surfing Honestly I´ve never been to that area of the pacific (Buenaventura) but from what I´ve heard the waves are like non existent in that area, I know that most surfers go to Taganga Beach in the Tayrona park but that´s up north, caribbean side.

I guess it is time for be to be banned from this site for a personal attack.

matamoscas you are an asshole. That is an idiotic comment. Some nice surf? You mean the surf that killed thousands of people? Too bad you weren't there surfing that day.

surfing They do wind surfing a lot on Lago Calima; which is not too
far from Cali.

I went to Guanchaco, one time, which is near Buenaventura; however I don't recall seeing anyone surfing there. The waves were not too
impressive there. The trip, BTW, is a little primitive, but I have heard that they are trying to develope the place for tourism.

fzrdan I thought the same when matamoscas=umm posted that just before I went to bed this morning.

Since neither Tinto or I ban members in general right now, Peter does that, unless something really gets out of hand, we won't ban you fzrdan.

So for now I guess everybody else will have to endure umm's bad taste and see where he comes from, and make up their own opinion. I will talk to Peter about measures, like deleting the two posts soon. And of course any others, who might decide to follow in your footsteps.

i've been to buenaventura a couple of times and... stayed in the ONLY hotel, el estacion.

surf, not nearby. i did see some nature study films of the colombian nort pacific coast and although rather rocky entries exist in this region, there is some comparably impressive surf. sorry i can't tell you the names of the programs/films.

Why In terrible taste but is it fodder for banning?

i believe it's fodder for the young whippersnapper to examine the things he has said and ask himself if he would do it again. presuming he would not say it again, he might apologize, publicly or privately, and get on with his life the better for the learning.

ban him? i dont think the offence warrants that. too, the experience might prove positive in the future, in not making the same mistake twice.

My account still works, thats great. It is too bad he had to ruin this thread. That seems to be happening a lot. Someone makes a comment and there is 50 repsonses to that stupid comment. Oh well.

Hey hodad26, I can send you some Mr. Zoggs. They still make that stuff?

Hahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, guess there are more waves in your mother's bathtub than at Taganga Beach. In many years I have never ever seen a surfer in Taganga.
Maybe you are confusing surfing with DIVING.

hotel estacion, Villamaría oh...I have good memories from there. Buenaventura is just starting a process to redesigning the whole city starting with the port and the neighborhoods. I know Villamaria is just the beggining as a the first good place for living well: houses, own port for small yates, etc

I Should Say.... While there are 'some' places with waves nothing I saw near Nuqui was in the same class as Costa Rica or El Salvador.
I think the large shallow bays deplete a lot of the waves' energy before they break onto the beaches.
There are a lot of places I never saw in Choco though....
