Suramerica Metro area of Medellin

Hello. Anyone know about the Suramerica Metro area of Medellin? Thinking of renting there but don't know much about the place and environment. I believe it is near La 70? Thank you.

Suramerica is in the Southern area of the valley, just off the main metro line, North of La Estrella and South of Itagui. It is a nice area, lots of housing and overall very reasnable prices. Might be out of the way if you are looking for something close to all the action.

Suramericana is off the Metro Line B, near to the stadium, and is a totally different part of the city. Probably a bit closer to more action, close to the metro but no the main line (the transfer to the main line is a bitch). Not a bad place really...

Personally i didn´t feel too comfortable there, i felt much more relaxed and chilled out in Belén and Laureles, from la 76 a la 80. For some reason i always felt that i had to watch my back there, maybe i was being paranoid.

I have a friend who lives there, the house is absolutely beautiful with lots of hard woods and tile however the yards are what I would call zero-lot line (american phrase). Hang a left from the main entrance and on the left on the top of the hill you will see the SurAmerica in big letters - go about a half a km and take a left -- he lives in what I would call (and is typical) a compound. Some of the houses have great views (I looked at maybe 4 houses in this subdivision for sale. I would say they were about 190 to 220m, 3-4br 2 floor homes going for around 250K USD. Some of the homes had great views from the 2nd floor. Once you enter the compound (past checkpoint charlie) then you are in safe zone (I would assume) - one needs to get used to security in blue shirts with shotguns walking around within the compound, but as I have learned as a result of these types of people Colombia is much safer these days.
