I do because my wife is nuts about them, good thing we only go to Olympica. I used to ride her about it until.... I got a phone call from them, turns out I (not her, mind you) won a $500,000 COP shopping spree. Now I don't say anything to her.

We don´t bother with "puntos Exito". What are we going to do with yet another plastic cup? But if you tell Colombians they´ll get a free package of used chewing gum for buying such and such product they´ll do it. That Olympica deal sounds good so long as you have a big fridge.

Without the cards you don't receive promotional discounts. I only use my points at xmas time. The points at Olympica expire, so during the year anyone that wants to use them in my family is welcome to do so. The thing that sucks is I can't get an Exito or Carefour card as I don't have a permanent cedula or bank account. My wife doesn't seem to want to put the effort into obtaining one. Jerk. Yet she sure loves shopping in those stores. Some day I'll be free of her. Oh what a day that'll be!

I have both Exito and Vivero cards and they are worthwhile if you live here. Exito is the best as you get coupons you can spend just like cash on any thing when you redeem your points. You also can buy promotional items at the postef price. Vivero on the other hand only lets you spend your points on certain items at a rate of 50% off the bill, no food no electronics in other words if you buy 100.000 cp of things that qualify it cost you 50.000 cp

I have all cards, the points are free so who cares, there is no fee. Exito gives you simple things, I got a lamp for my house last time. Carulla reduces the price of certain nice expensive things, got a really nice wok last week for 40.000 pesos. Carrefour doesn´t have a loyalty program, or at least last time I checked. Pomona just gives you discount prices on the spot.

Atrevido, considering such cards are rampant in other places ( often for equally scant incentives) I don't think that it's a "Colombian" thing.

Where I live, all the supermarket chains have discontinued the card programs.

If I lived in Colombia and needed a card to get 20% off on "Fruit and Vegetable Tuesday" and "Meat Thursday" I'd probably sign up - IF they didn't require anything more than an anonymous email address to send sale notices or e-coupons or whatever it is they do. I wouldn't give them my name, address or cedula number
