Summer Solstice

Happy Summer Solstice!.
It is so nice to have long days. This is the most exiting day of the year for me.
After living here for so long, it seams strange when in COLOMBIA the days are so short.
I know that at least it is warm all year long, but I miss my long summer days. The sun going down at 6:15PM is hard to accept, such nice weather and it has to end so soon.
What do you think of the shorts days in Colombia, do you miss the 8:PM still light of the northern countries?.

It is hotter than I like. I wanted to be in Tahoe,( but I had to come back) I spend many summers there, paddling in a canoe in the middle of the lake, drinking beer, and swimming. Great memories!

Cool...great idea for your post. I recall many comments of how long it stayed daylight here vs Bogota. It is even more so further North. I recall it staying light up until close to 10 PM (WA)

Either way....I am thinking of a nighttime pool dip or something. It is puurfect.

This weather now feels like mid summer.
Here where I live, these days are supposed to be fuggy and bloomy, and cool this time of the year, we call it June Bloom. Now it is hot, very hot, almost 90 even by the beach.

I wonder if it is also hotter by your end of the world. Now I am talking global warming.

Desi 'How?

Sorry, my bad. should have been clearer. I do need to double check my calendar...but what I meant was the ¨celebrations", what they involve and what is behind them are different.
Si - Midsummer is more Pagan and has lore behind it (Pan, Fairies, Sex in the woods (cuz Pan is such a horney kinda guy, magical thigsn etc.. etc).
When we Celebrated Summer Solstice in the US as something different...and many people do - hope I cleared that up - or maybe made it worse jejeje

Desideria (Moderator) says on Jun 22, 2008, 11:05:

Ok, CatGirl, I didn't know there was a Summer Solstice celebration specific to the US. It's not the same thing in Europe either, Sweden has its own customs (Midsummer Pole, in Finland and some other countries it's huge bonfires, but the common denominator is drunken revelry. There's no ceremony, it's a traditional summer party night and every new generation seems to alter or add to it a little, the core being always the same; it's a celebration of life, the time for bloom, fruit and seed, the cyclical time of the seasons and the wheel that turns...and at every Swedish family there's alwats somebody who says it out every year, after the first schnaps of aquavit...."and now it's exactly six months til Christmas Eve" and another who says..."think, the days start shortening again already tomorrow". It's the poignancy of feeling the briefness of the season for growth and birth of plants and crops and our time as the youth is fleeting and winter nights are long and cold.

Desideria (Moderator) says on Jun 22, 2008, 11:08:

And no, it's not the first day of the summer, it's the longest day of the year, the midsummer. Not here anyway. We consider the season being summer when the median temps raise above 10 degrees celcius. That happens usually sometime in May. Traditionally we count June, July and August as summer months.

No Desi....ummm my step father was a Rosicrucian. We celebrated different holidays than most, probably closer to Scanda.. But Summer Solstice more of an "observance". It was a fiarly unorthodox upbringing but it kept my mind more open than most children.

Typically most people in EEUU simply observe too. Or maybe that's what Football games are for ja!
