suggestions

I HAVE BEEN LIVING IN USA FOR 4 YEARS ; I'M LEGAL HERE AND I HAVE ALL MY PAPERS BUT I HAVE A (FEMALE) COUSIN THAT WOULD LIKE TO COME OVER, SO FAR SHE HAS ALREADY WENT TO THE EMBASSY BUT HER PETITION WAS DENIED. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT OTHER OPTIONS WE HAVE.
WE ARE VERY CLOSE BECAUSE WE GREW UP TOGHETER AND WE ARE LIKE SISTERS.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

You cannot petition a cousin Your residency status will do nothing for your cousin as she is not considered an immediate relative. Even if you were a US Citizen, you cannot bring a cousin into the US. For more information you can download for I-130 and look at its instructions:

More Information Send me a pic. I have lots of friends. Does she plan on learning to speak English? I speak Spanish but most of the people I know do not. Where does she want to live? What kind of guy does she want to meet? If you give me more information I may be able to suggest some possibilities. A private message might be best though because this is strictly NOT a dating website.

.... Having her take English lessons may increase her chances of getting a VISA. What worries immigration is that people will become US citizens and then not work and go on welfare. As you can tell that is not what they're looking for. Immigrations goal is to bring in immigrants that can contribute to the economy by working and spending.

I used to work for immigration as a part time job during school and often times the one reason why someone was turned down for their visa was because they did not speak english (or french in QUebec.

They want to make sure that people will not just come into the US or Canada and live off of welfare. That is why immigrants with degrees and english skills are more likely to be accepted into the US and Canada.

It's not the only variable but I would say that it is a rather important one.

If she is married to an American citizen and the marriage is legit they don't give a flying....if she can speak English. How do I know? If my wife's knowledge of English were gunpowder, she wouldn't have enough to blow her nose off. If she's hot enough, there will be some foolish gringo (like me) willing to learn Spanish to get into her panties. And yes, it's worth it. We're hound dogs!

My suggestion was to save her from throwing her life away by marrying some american that she didn't love. Its sad that she would feel the need to whore herself to some american guy in order to move to the US.

A much easier way would to learn how to speak english and show immigration that she will be able to work in the US.

If she marries, no she wont have to be able to speak english but she'll be stuck in a marriage that she may not be pleased with.

I would also wonder if a guy would like to marry woman who is only interested in getting her visa. Doesn't seem fair to the guy who thinks that she's in love with him when in reality she's in love with the fact that she can get away.

Percentages I would also wonder if a guy would like to marry woman who is only interested in getting her visa.

Wonder no more. If 100,000 men seek Colombia brides then some percentage,, say 1% or 1,000 do not care. These 1000 would run the gambit from obtaining a cheap maid to helping the person to relocate. Look no further than the Rich and Famous,, never heard many deny they were “shallow”.

Problem with language: I never put much stock in what a person says, watching to see what they do, especially over a period of time is more revealing.

"When you men get home and face an anti-war protester, look him in the eyes and shake his hand. Then, wink at his girlfriend, because she knows she's dating a pussy." Quote - General Tommy Franks

"A much easier way would to learn how to speak english and show immigration that she will be able to work in the US." No, unless she has special skills that's close to impossible. Hey, for 5 grand she can pay some gringo to marry her and she doesn't even have to spread her legs for the guy. As for "whoring", every guy pays for it one way or another and every woman is making some kind of "deal" with the guy she's with. Of course every now and then the "deal" is love.

It has nothing to do with skills but more with degrees. All she needs is an associated degree or a certification. It could be a certification in bikini waxing or hair colouring.

It kills me to see people getting married just for a visa.

caslug says on Jun 1, 2005, 22:08:

sylvie, i don't know about canada.. but for the US, i don't think you can have ANY TYPE of degree/certificate. Beside, the US does not recognize 99% of the degree outside the US and definitely not comostology certification. Or else the US would be flooded w/ hair and nail people from 3rd world country getting visa to the US.

During the DOTCOM days they silicon valley company were bringing engineer from china, india, tawian, even canada! They didn't just walk up to the US embassy and was given a visa. US companies had to sponser them w/ H(?) visas. I know a few canadians that came on a tourist visa got jobs(not engineer, but related) and got the company to sponser them OR they ended marrying their US boyfriends/girlfriends.

Search the forum, there's tons of stories of COL doctors, lawyers, engineer coming to the US and working as low paying jobs because the US doesn't recognize their degree. Still the Fastest LEGAL way to get visa to the US is either a company sponser you OR you marry a citizen. Of course people can try to come on a tourist/student visa and stay past their dates, but that's illlegal.

All of you seem to think that getting married to an American is the only way someone can become a citizen. This certainly isn't the case. It may be the easiest way but certainly isn't the only way.

Many people are allowed in the country for other purposes even at times to fill quotas (yes it's true). You can't compare Canadians to Colombians because they fall into two completely different categories. Immigration from developing countries is handled way differently than countries such as Canada, Germany and UK.

Do you honestly think that the US handles immigrantion from Canada in the same way they handle immigration from Cuba, Mexico and Colombia?

Wish List UC is right again, I'm afraid. And Sylvie, put the pipe down baby. The last time I checked, which was November 2004, a white husband from the USA was at the top of most young Colombiana's wish list. If you take the time to ask them why, the visa is only part of a long list of reasons for why they prefer this arrangement. I know for a fact that my fiancee turned away several gringos from the USA simply because she didn't like them. She could have had a ticket to the good old USA long before she met me. ;)

Caslug Canada is very selective on immigrants, there is a point system for application. Big points for either official language, science and technology degrees, age, and of course biggest points for how much money they bring (see Hong Kong exodus).

The Canadian government is keen to fill shortages in the nation's skilled labour force, so they make it easier for people who are highly skilled to immigrate. The problem is that most industry and technical associations are very protectionist, and the universities can be uncooperative in allowing newcomers to prove their equivelancy.

Becuase of this I'd venture to say that many Colombians that arrive in Canada make a case for refugees status. Some are legit, some are not. For those that aren't, they make up a good story, pay a few people to back it up for them, take some pictures and away they go. Because we know Colombia has a larger proportion of regugee-claim-eligible people it is next to impossible for the government to screen legit from good illegit stories. Canadian social policies offer a softer landing than those in the US so this can be a more lucrative place. The US attraction is that it is 1) The US (Colombians seem to see it as poor Europeans did 200 years ago) and 2) it has such huge existing Colombian communites so many may know someone there.

Luz Can she go on vacation to the US...? I understand that there are enormous #s of unreported people there. I don't support this but if she is desperate. Alternately it could help her have a more convincing false marriage.

For a more legal way: What about studying in the US? I know of quite a few Colombians who spent time there on student Visas.

caslug says on Jun 2, 2005, 13:47:

US immigration... policy has always changing, sometimes they let more political refugees other times they lower the number of student or working visa issued. BUT one thing that have NOT touch is the fianance/marriage route. They will not tell US citizen they CANT bring their spouse/fiance to the US(assuming it's legit).

So recommending(even in jest) the fastest/easiest way into the US from a 2/3 world country is still the "foreign" bride route. a girl/guy from colombia can be illiterate and unskill, but if they have a valid American spouse/fiance, they're in! While that PhD from University is denied a visa.

Adrimm, telling Luz to bring her cousin in to US on tourist visa then suggestion she go underground(ie, unreported) is not the sort of advice one should give. It because of people doing exactly that.. That it is hard for legitimate foreign tourist to get visa to US. Beside, even if she does that she will NEVER be able to go home or get her citizenship. Of course she can marry a citizen and resolve that... LOL..

adrimm says on Jun 2, 2005, 16:08:

My opinion. Just because an untrue marriage has "papers" doesn't make it an honest or correct way to enter a country either. IMHO an untrue marriage is abusive of the law and as underhanded as being there illegally would be.
