Suggestions Thread for the New PoorButHappy

Peter......here is my suggestion:

I would like to see a complaint process established if a poster is not happy with the performance of the unpaid moderators and their thankless jobs.....Rather than allow your unpaid and volunteer moderators get blasted publicly and riduculed to no end in alot of the publicly posted threads, why not post and enforce a policy whereas if a poster is not a happy camper with the mods, then their only option is to send you, Peter, as the owner of the site, a complaint in the form of a PM directed to you....not blast them in every thread and/or comment...then you deal with the complaint.....as the final word, since it is YOUR website, afterall.........your thoughts? and everyone elses?

PS....if i had a PBH Wishlist...i would add a Spell Check function......i would be willing to donate some $$ towards that feature......??? also, i will be sending you the response for the Services Forum description soon.....

I'm not a computer whiz but I know Mozilla Firefox recently added spell-checking into their standard (and free) internet browser. It works fine for me in this forum and another one I post in. I get a little red squiggly line under each of my typos. The errors are displayed immediately, I don't have to wait until I'm finished and then hit F7 or something like that. It's a slick feature. Maybe Bill Gates has copied it, too.

Yes I agree Miguel_Clavo, we should also somehow be able to alert moderators when someone takes a disliking to us and insults and jides us wherever possible, so that they can deal with it, and deal with the immature scumbag responsible.

That is a shame, Peter, as it seems that several posters would rather blast your selected moderators in public for enforcing your rules and doing what you expect of them than contacting you via PM.....blasting the mods in public does nothing for the site......just out of curiosity, what kind of a quantity are we talking about for posters who actually have contacted you about moderator complaints, if you care to share with us..?...in all reality, it is much simpler just to insult your mods than send you a PM and wait for a response, dont you think?....just a thought....=)

BTW, i think the mods do a great job, despite getting publicly criticized and ridiculed alot of time....=)

I do like PBH without many rules and policies. Posters need to be smart in dealing with other people´s point of view.

With the new ignore button we are all moderators to an extent so I don't think there will be any need for a complaint process.

There will no longer be a poster here that will accuse other posters of serious criminal activity like being pedophiles and sex tourists. Not on my computer anyway.

I can't think of a reason of why a moderator would be blasted with our new button. No one will have to ask a mod of why it is not nice to call someone fat but it is ok to call someone a pedephile.

These problems are now solved as far as I'm concerned.

It's easy to block and unblock. But you need to remember who's on your blackball list. If you ever want to unblock them, you'll need to type their name into the Google search box so you can find their profile page. It's the profile page that contains the block/unblock button.

I participate in an investment related forum that has the blocking feature. On the plus side, it keeps track of who I've blocked so I can easily click on their name to unblock them. An interesting feature is that the person who's been blocked - the one who writes basura all the time - knows how many people have blocked him. He doesn't know their names (a good thing), but he knows there are at least two dozen people that dislike him so much, they choose to block his name rather than skip his posts. That's got to be embarrassing.

i mean...if I had a problem with Peter or any of the mods, rather than take the lazy and cowardly way of trying to humiliate and insult them in a thread, i would make use of the PM function to email them my concerns, and try to resolve the issue at hand.....and if it was not to my satisfaction, and i desired, i would take it to Peter....but either way, they are the mods, Peter is the owner, and i am not. So, i respect them, individually and in their capacity ( oops, i guess i am sucking up again, oh me oh my!!!), that i would either abide by their decision, or i would go find a more comfortable website.......obviously there are some people here who dont like to be told "No", or they dont like NOT being in Control like they believe they have in their own personal non-virtual enviroments....either way, posting whiney posts ad nauseum to help ease the psychological or ego pain some are feeling really serves no constructive purpose.............

Miguel_Clavo says on Jun 25, 2007, 14:31:

rather simple, actually.......some people who have a complaint about the activity of the mods and the job they do, choose to public ridicule the mods within a thread (ie, goosesteppers, etc) or make allegations that the mods have conspired against them on a personal level, or to create a new thread listing their complaint about individual mods....rather than addressing the issue between the mod and the poster, they just want to blast them in public........the humiliation and insults comes in when they are airing their complaint about the mods......

read my post, GIB/DG....i have not one complaint about mods, Peter, PBH....it was a suggestion only to civilize the process of mod complaints to Peter......as opposed to all the retarded whiney posts of a select few whose ego has been wounded.......read the title...it was a suggestion thread for the New PBH...what part of that did you miss? the post is not a complaint about the mods...it is an constructive suggestion...so there is not a need to send it in an email to Peter.....got it? or do you need more help with it?

My job is here is basically being the cleaning lady of the forum. Deleting spam and obvious trolls; moving threads around to appropiate forums etc. maintenance work. Now that you guys can ignore each others and still keep on reading the thread it'll be even more maintenance and I'm thankful for that.

M_C. of course they wouldn't if you were the OP but if it was somebody else's thread and they wanted to skip your comments. It can become a little chaoutic, IMHO if say, for example, I created a thread and nobody was blocking me, but half of the posters in my thread only read the other half of the posts...nobody but it would not be the same half...I don't know how to explain it.

Example: I create a thread about Chippy Chappy gringos. Miguel, UC, Kat, Goin_south, vic, GIB, gringoloid, Miguel and Miguel_Clavo send in their comments and start a debate. Only that Miguel does not read M_C or Going_South, GIB doesn't read Vic, Vic reads GIB but not M_C, UC only reads his own posts and me and Kat1, Gringoloid has blocked me and you, but not Kat1 or UC....the mathematical variations of the same theme are endless.
This is going to be fun!
