I have a stupid question. Are there a lot of gringoes living in Cali these days. Here in Mexico, I see myself on every street corner. There are like 5 million Canadians here and many of them are senior citizens who don't know a word of Spanish.
I like to go to a city where I can meet my own kin, but not when it affects me adapting to a new culture. By the way I am not so close minded as to say that I want the whole country for myself, I just tire of the bars where my people act like idiots and embarass me. I think we have all experienced that. "oh look at me." I' m a traveller." "Listen to how loud I can speak English and have no respect for the culture here."
Whew, I think I need a tequila now. Excuse me.

Skippy says on Mar 28, 2004, 18:59: Reply to Saint I am living in GDL. It is okay. I am thinking of finding a job in a langusge school when I arrive in Cali. I have 5 years teaching experience. I am a little nervous that I won't find anything, but there in lies the challange. I felt the same way before I went to Brazil and everything went fine. A big plus is that I speak Spanish. I am not fluent, but enough for a conversation. Yup 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Probably not but keep in mind jobs sound like they are hard to come by in Colombia. I met several people and they all told me it's difficult to find decent jobs there. It seemed moreso than other places I've hit in South America.

Desideria (Moderator) (Trustee board) says on Mar 29, 2004, 10:00: make pesos spend pesos No, people don't get paid very well in Colombia, but then again, they are spending in pesos too...everything is relative. An English teacher, part time, can make enough money working 4 to 5 hours a day to cover the basic cost of living there. Not to get rich, if that is what you mean. It al depends what you consider a decent income. "When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain?"(First Witch in Macbeth) 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
