kenbone says on Jan 30, 2008, 14:16: Yes you can do it. The exam can be more difficult to pass though if you are going to a foreign school. I think it's wll worth it though considering all the bucks you will save in tuition

jaramillo says on Jan 30, 2008, 14:18: Heard you Jorge. Barranquila is no educational meca. In medellin U.de.A is no longer the only game in town. For years UPB and CES have graduated better prepared students. My brother did his at UPB (about 15 years ago), passed the U.S. foreign boards (basic sciences and clinical), and then did a residency at Abert Einsntein. He practices in the U.S. That's the basic route. Passing rates of the foreign boards are LOW.

Man Tequila says on Jan 30, 2008, 14:43: I wrote a couple of the American board exams for chits and giggles. They are hard, but not overly so, you can pass them with a lot of work. There are a lot of obstacles in the way and only a small percentage end up able to practice in the States. If you plan to go to Colombia since you are American and can't get into an American school, and I do not know your situation, the odds are lower still. miamimike says on Jan 30, 2008, 20:40: Try googling the Search function here, last week there was a very extensive post and the route you need to take to have your Col University credits revalidated beore you sit for the USME here in the states. Its a long road,,,You may want to look at the Universidad Autonoma Med School in Guadalajara Mexico as I hear they have an Agreement or some type of Pre-Approval (us med type) so the route may be much shorter. If the Graduate has a Good Command of English I think the Pass Rates are OK(for foreign schools) as I have known several Docs who studied in the Dom Rep and Cuba and passed the Exams first time around. rhydewithdis (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jan 31, 2008, 11:01: I know quite a bit about this because I have close friends, family and novias that are doing/have done this. Basic thing here is if you are a US citizen and study abroad, the procedure wherever you go is almost the same. Many US students who do not gain admission into a US based medical school complete their studies in Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, India, etc. If you are not a US citizen and looking for sponsorship to come work in the US, then you will have a much harder road, even more so if you are trying to do a residency in anything which is even remotely competitive.
