Stocked fishing ponds in or around Medellin?

Need to find a place somewhere around Medellin, preferably close, to which I can take students. Looking for a fishing pond/lake that is stocked much like a guaranteed lake in the US. Needs to have facilities, equipment rental, etc. Anyone ever heard of or seen this here?

well, it's not exactly 'next door' but it's about 35-45 minutes up the hill las palmas, and about 3 miles past the la ceja turn off. you will continue along the road to llano grande and it's located on your left. the old name was la trucha. it's still there, still functions and i think it's under another name. just ask around. it's not hard to find. it's fun, the kids are guaranteed a nice trout and they can cook it or have it cooked right there. too, it's not real expensive.

enjoy.

Great reference...anything else "floating around" out there?

bigtexas... check out google earth for some lakes but honestly I don't know whats in them. any trout farm has little ponds where you can catch a trout but its for kids and chicas. f your a sports fisherman back in the USA its totally lame... I just go there to drink and let somebody else catch the trapped fish.

Colombianos will tell you that there is troucha/trout even in the medellin river... lmao. I have worked in the fisheries field here in BC Canada and I'd bet both huevos that there aint no foking trucha in that dirtyol river... I think colombians call any fish trucha...LOL

point well taken, papi....unfortunately, were it not for la trucha..above mentioned...there would be no trout in the restaurants. the more common fish, robalo, comes from the magdelena or sucio rivers. but trout? as far as i know, outside of sport caught, is non existant. and if you want to take the kids out to catch a fish, that's the result you want...to let the kid catch a fish. anything less, like an excuse, wont work.

dwmte... I'm bring all my fishing gear to Colombia as I'm not returning to canada... I have seen some old geezers fishing in the rivers on the way to Pereira low altitude.. that must have been what they for fishing for. Are they anything like bass... I love catching those with light tackle/ fly fishing... more so than trout and better eating IMHO. trout is just a good looking fish as far as fish go.
I think one could stock lower lying rivers and lakes with bass as they can take the hotter water temps. The trout in Colombia are all of the Kamloops sub species ie: trout acostomed to higher altitudes and a slightly warmer water temp. 13C I think. Around antioquia the elevation needs to be around 2400 metres so I was told by a colombiano that owns a trout farm back of san felix.

You need to head across the Col-Venezuelan Border to Merida high in the Mountain for some decent trout fishing!

take em on the NIGHT BUS! to Pasto and go fish the Laguna de La Coche... ja... and, those are TROUT. ... and great eating..... or, just take 'em to one of the lil restaurantes there by the dock and you can feed 5 people todos, 'trout dinners', ALL FOR $8-$10 USD!

Thanks everyone...

PapiChulo, although I am not a devout fisherman I agree that the stocked ponds are a joke. I teach all girls who would have a blast even if it is only a stocked pond, as probably none of them have ever even touched a live fish. Then, of course, we will be dissecting the fish for anatomy teaching and need to guarantee each girl has a fish...therefore the need for stocked pond fishing rather than sport fishing.

At any rate, going to go check out that place this weekend.

right on bigtexas... then thats the go then. If its just for kids take them to the pond. the palce back of San Filex is good for that but any trout farm is good too.

you remind me of an amusing story... I heard ther are escaped trout near San Vinciente Risaldria(sp). so I packed up mu gear and headd off to there. Grabed a montenaro guia and dragged his arse thru total shit looking for escaped trout. that poor kid that takes colombianos to look at trees thought I was the biggest retard walking up and down rivers looking for the elusive trucha.... finally he had enuff and wouldn't go bush anymore. He said keep going f you like and there is a natural sauna/turco a few hundi meters down river but there was no way in hell he was gunna follow me. I asked him to come back and look for me in 3 hours.... I don't think he gave a shit but was really surprzed to see me again... WTF the natural sauna was worth the struggle to atempt to find the elusive wild colombian trout.

papi, i'm livin proof that the little streamlets that cross the fincas in llano grande and up towards the airport are laden with trout. throughout the world, when you're 5000 ft or better
ASL there's gonna be trout in just about any stream. nature of the beast and nature.

so there's plenty of fish to be had and plenty of fishing. i'd guess a spinner to be good in the small streams. trout love em and they're easy.

as for robalo. i've only eaten it a couple of times and would guess it to be similar to bass. maybe a colombian native can elaborate. they're sold everywhere sooooooo?

a little help from the peanut gallery here........

i had a swiss business partner for a number of years in a publishing project and while i was working in switzerland with him, we'ld go trout fishing, mushroom hunting and dandelion picking for our daily salads. what a wonderful friend. learned a lot from him. he could pull a trout outta a 'pee' stream. tiny little tricklelets. i swear.

This i had posted somewhere else - was full of fish and they rent the gear.

We went to aplace called the Eco Parque el Gaitero in Sopetran, before one arrives at Santa Fe. It was a great place with swimming pools x 3, a fishing lake where if you catch, you pay by kilo to take them away, boating and zip lining. The camping area was reasonably large. Some tents seemed to be for rent and were in poor shape; others seemed new and I assume were brought by the campers. http://www.el-gaitero.com/index.html Lagotour San Jeronimo is sposed to be good but I haenot personally been there.
