Steps to understanding Colombia

1) blind tourists who think Colombians are nice people.

2) realization that everyone around you is shit.

3) you meet new people. you make new friends. you think you have found the real Colombia.

4) you realize new friends are shit too and Colombia is a bad place.

Tinto or Lionheart,

Could you please erase this latest anti-colombian topic. It seems that just about every day we get some jerk who only opens topics with the intention of insulting Colombia and colombians.

caliche,

Freedom of speech has it's limits when it degenerates into nothing more than slanderous dreck, so please spare us the "defending a man's freedom of speech" routine.

Why so hard on the Colombians.

There are good and evil in all countries.

My girl as much of a problem as she can be is a pleasure to know and has a good heart.

Maybe you just expect too much or need to change the places you go to for meeting people.

Tell me GIB, how many topics do you see that imply that "all gringos are shit", 'cause I sure don't see any, and if I did, I certainly think they should be erased.

"Your gringo friends will come and go to a point that you don't even bother talking to them anymore when you see them."

That's funny, because for me it's the opposite. The colombians I meet around here just seem to come and go also.

Coming back from the dead Posters should wait more than,, say,,, 1 day,, having a poorly written topic / statement ready to post 55 seconds after becoming a member ruins further credibility. Next establish your knowledge base over a period of several days / weeks. Being a Colombian or having been to Bogota for long periods of time will enhance your credibility and allows the poster to ask seemingly uninformed questions or make absolutely unverified statements with impunity.

Another remaining topic with only a few of the many permutations:

Is it advisable
Is it safe
How many or Are there many
Some/many/most in U.S.
The best location
I know about the men/women but
Understanding / Knowledge required
Watch out when
ARE you SURE it’s safe
Do Colombians
The greatest experience in my life
What are your personal experiences
Do I have time to do both
I’ve done this many times (Insert Resume).

Swim up steam or piss into the Colombian wind.

Should this guy get the beneift of the doubt too? What do we have here?

I'll answer that question in his format

1.A member that is only a few hours old

2.A member that says you're blind if you think Colombians are nice.

3.A member that says Colombia is a bad place.

And this is all said in the "Friendly Talkzone" about Colombia. We used to call these people trolls. Now we are supposed to give them the benefit of the doubt because the title of his thread is:

"Steps to Understanding Colomba"

I think he is being sarcastic. Let's see what the moderators think. Maybe there is some hidden intellectual thought that is escaping me. But then again, what would a Cracker Jack lawyer like myself know?

ColX.....I'm with you. A whole lot of posts with condemnation, yet the
moderators are silent and nowhere to be found.

By the way, where do the women hang out in Cali ? Ooops, sorry.

actually ... I almost deleted this thread, but others have asked to keep it.

Often enough the USA gets bashed just as well, if not even more often than Colombia. But no, don't dare say anyting against Colombia, and generalizing about Colombia is even worse.

I think the OP ran into the same problems I have personally encountered a few times, but I don't think the generalization is correct. And a few others have mentioned similar experiences. The topic itself is worth a discussion, and other threads have mentioned the issues before as well.

there is a Dickens quote that applies to foreigners living in Colombia for any extended period..."It was the best of time, it was the worst of times." The best people I have ever met in my life were Colombians...the worst people too. The best times I ever had in my life were in Colombia...the worst too. It is a country of extremes but it is never boring...and you will never be more alive than when you are in Colombia.

looks like that other thread ... ... about the mystery of the missing blender.

Remembering comments from other threads it seems to be common practice to milk people, fellow Colombians and gringos equally. Somebody from Colombia wrote it is normal to give it a try, we gringos are just not used to it. Or remember the thread about the stolen remote control by a family member ...
