Anybody know how many ex-pats live in Medellin more than half time? How about a break down by nationality?

I´m a British ex pat living in Medellin, no idea how many ex-pats out there but i´m guessing in the low 1000´s that come and go every year. I´ve lived here for nearly a year after traveling for 3 1/2 backpacking around the world, i chose Medellin over LOTS of places around the world but nothing came close to the Latin Culture. It ended up with a choice between Salta in north Argentina and Medellin, Medellin won.

for my first 3 years in colombia...'89 through 92, i WAS the ex pat community, with the exception of some of the older american wives, married to colombians. some had been there since the late 40's and early 50's...by that time, these lovely women had become pura paisas. raised their children and grandchildren and in some cases their great grand children.

most had prettymuch forgotten about their birthplace.

the first foreigners i saw, were the dope flyboys who would come through periodically on one of their 'hauls'....too, an occassional gringo--narco--would hold up at the hotel inter while they did their business. also, i forgot, there were occassional chinese business men trying to sell their wares. me? just another gringo cum paisa.

Probably several thousand foreigners living in Medellin.

The British consulate has about 190 living here, I am not registered or another English guy I know, so there are far more than 190 people with UK passports living in Medellin, although most of those I expect are Colombians with UK passpots.

Fascinating....
Valle and Cali have almost double as many foreign-born people living there than Medellin and Antioquia.
