Sports

Are there any sports academies in Cali? I guess what I really need to know is there a place that i could teach english and coach baseball at any where in Colombia? The only academy I found was Team Renteria in Edgars hometown(Branquilla).
If there is not would I be able to get involved(coach) with sports in cali.

Thanks for your help!

Kyle, Kyle, Kyle....

It's all FUTBOL in that part of Colombia, lol.

I met with the guy affiliated with Orlando Cabrera (he's a scout for the Braves, actually, and gets uniforms/equipment from them), Renteria's brother is in Miami now working with youth camps.

But the only places you're going to find beisbol is the northern coast, Barranquilla, Santa Marta and Cartagena.

Do you know if there are any jobs with Team Renteria or other acadmies up there?

Caulfield, I know there was baseball; I just did not know where. Do you by chance have contact with the guy affiliated with Cabrera?

thanks man,

To tell you the truth, the best idea might be to talk to the Director of Comfenalco School (in Cartagena), which is a high school of around 4-5,000 students. It's where most of the baseball players come from...he's from Cuba I think and a huge baseball fan. He was interested in getting someone to help him organize his sports programs there, not sure if he's found someone yet.

I have a two year commitment in Armenia, Colombia, to teach...or I would at least have thought about it. I'm sure the salary wouldn't be as high as teaching at a private, English-speaking academy, but there are a lot of resources there, it's just not in the "nicest" area of town...don't see many gringos around, I'll put it that way.

Your Proposition I read your proposition about the Clememte Youth Commitee. I think that is a hell of an idea, and it would definietly work if you can put the time and find the little money it takes. If you ever need to bounce an idea off someone for a truthful opinion let me know. If I can help in getting stuff going let me know. I have a few ideas myself and I do know some people that have minimal contacts with MLB(they maybe able to help, but i do not know). Maybe something will work out.

Do you have any contact information for the Director of Comfenalco School (in Cartagena). I googled the school but came up empty.

Thanks Jim

The girl whose e-mail I gave you speaks pretty close to fluent English (she goes to the best university in Bogota and is an intern) and SHOULD be able to help you out, although I'm pretty sure he does speak English with medium-fluency at least.

You need to get a resume to him somehow.

In Cali there's a baseball league...but it's run by Coldeportes...a state institution...I don't know how could you apply there....but baseball is more common in the north coast than in Cali
