I hear ALOT of Negativity about SPIRIT, BUT do they get you there in ONE PIECE and ON TIME?? Is all the crap substantiated? Have you flown SPIRIT? What are your experiences.. I heard they cancel UN FULL flights.. And I remember some people stating they are suing them.. etc etc..

I love Laura Acuna & Jessica Cediel! lol

How is this possible? Aren't all of the US-Colombia frequencies allowed under the bilateral agreement already allocated and being used by other airlines?

I flew them twice and no problems either time. Planes are decent and basic. Love the prices and actually the times are better for me.

Have flown Spirit to Cartagena, Panama & Costa Rica all the flights have been on time, the PTY flight was early both ways. I try not to check luggage. but had to SJO, no problems.
I believe I paid the following:
$800 RT for 4 to SJO from FLL
$600 RT for 2 to CTG from FLL
$175 RT for 1 to PTY from FLL all prices included taxes and fees

I know thay cancel flights some times but I have been lucky I guess, I have had many many more problems with AA out of Miami.

I don't mind so much if the flight gets cancelled when I am in panama or Colombia but I would be an unhappy camper if they cancelled my flight down.

The terminal in FLL sucks, one bathroom for all the gates seems a little more like a bus terminal.

If it makes AA rethink their pricing to MDE, i will be happy...

My 10/25/08 Spirit flight from CTG to FLL was canceled with no notice. I had checked their web site's flight status. It was "on schedule" a few hours prior to supposed takeoff so I left for the airport. They had my email and Colombia mobile number, but they didn't contacted me. When I got there they told me the flight was canceled "for operational reasons" and that there should be a flight the next day.

My Jul '08 DCA-FLL-CTG flights went fine. Those are my two experiences apart from useless customer service when I called in Jul to see if they would relax their one-checked-bag rule so I could check additional bags of donated goods for flood and mudslide victims. "Check with your local airport authority," were the responses I got on multiple occasions from the staff in the Indian call center.

BTW, three CTG airport police officers protected the Spirit staff from threaten physical violence by some of the irate passengers in Oct. I have photos if anyone wants to see them and can tell me how to embed/post them here.

Anyone know where an airline's canceled flights are documented?

I recently flew them to Cartagena from NY ($269 w/ taxes roundtrip).
No problems whatsoever. I will definitely fly them again, especially to Medellin.
Any word on the rumor they will fly to San Andres?

I have flown Spirit 4 times since May and they aren't as bad as some people make them out to be. When you can fly roundtrip from FLL to CTG for less than $200, it's tough to complain about having to pay $3 for a beverage or snack. They've been on time, even early. I've arrived somewhat late (within an hour of take-off) and they've still gotten me and my bags there. I did have a problem on the first May flight with having to pay twice for a checekd bag on my return trip in CTG, but I think it was more of a CTG shortcoming than one of Spirit's.

If I can save over $100 versus the alternative flights, then Spirit is a no-brainer. Also, the prices on Avianca out of Miami are much better when compared to pre-Spirit days. Whether you like them or not, so far they've had a positive effect on lowering prices to CTG out of South Florida.

Spirit is cool if you are going to CTG - but try finding a way to get from CTG to MDE. The bus while cheap and interesting isn't for everyone (but the food is isn't bad - especially the coconut candies). 14 hours by bus depending on the road conditions.. A ticket from CTG to MDE sometimes costs as much as from the states (650,000 round trip)..
