I guess it would matter if anybody paid attention in the first place.

august says on Jul 30, 2008, 07:06: Seriously, wtf is the point? I would like to know if anyone has ever received, or witnessed the issuing of, a single traffic ticket in Colombia? Specifically for speeding (or red light running, just cuz I´m curious)?

romy says on Jul 30, 2008, 08:17: speed limits were ridiculous... 60 when I wanted to go 90... though here they're even worse, 80 when I want to go 140... 110 when I want to do 180 :( I like Germany...

Mononoke28 says on Jul 30, 2008, 08:38: All I saw was 80 when I was there and it was sloooooooooooooow. But then again we took an "unofficial" bus from Palmira to Tuluá once and the guy was going at "my butt is burning" speed. It was freaky scary. Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

pavo says on Jul 30, 2008, 09:09: Actually enfocement for speeding is rather strict now in Colombia. The new limit may change that. I have received 2 speeding tickets. You obviously haven't been running the highways of Colombia. There are speed traps all over the place.

august says on Jul 30, 2008, 09:44: Interesting, I have to say most of my experience is within Medellín where I feel like there´s an oversupply of speeding/wreckless driving and an undersupply of tickets. I used to hate traffic tickets when I was driving in the States, but being down here has given me a new appreciation for them. Bring on the tickets I say!

bigtexas1974 says on Jul 30, 2008, 09:58: I have been tagged for expired SOAT and Pico y Placa (because my dumbass STOPPED for the little guy when he waved me over - stupid), but not once have I seen a radar or laser gun being used within the city, nor have I seen red light tickets. Hell, I have blown lights myself right in front of or with Police and Transito! viajero123 (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jul 30, 2008, 10:03: I have known of someone being fined for speeding in the autopista norte in Bogota. He was stopped by the police and told that policemen a few metres behind had seen him going over 60km/h. When he demanded a proof, they brought him a radar image after a while. No way out of the ticket, and it was pretty expensive.

pavo says on Jul 30, 2008, 11:21: They set up one police with a radar gun about 1/2 kilometer ahead of a group of police that stop you if you are clocked over the speed limit. I read an article a while back in El Tiempo that Colombia actually invested in the best radar technology available. I see them using it everyday on the autopistas of Colombia. I've seen the trap in Bogota on the 7a con 170 and Autopista con 170.

expatriate says on Jul 30, 2008, 11:26: While in the city of Cali, you can drive anyway you want, except during Pico Placa. Drive the wrong way on one way streets, run stop signs and red lights, park anywhere you want, speed, etc., and you will never get a ticket.
