Those of us in Colombia usually make enough to live well here, and I think tipping, when most Colombians don't, and OVERtipping, such as in restaurants, should be common practice, since we can afford it and since we don't have that caste-system attitude that most well-off Colombians have. The waiter deserves a decent place to live and a little cash to buy things with, and his 6-10% (if ANYTHING at all!) added to the bill doesn't cut it. So, gringos, when you leave $1,000-2,000 per person extra, or when you tip the Carulla bag boy or girl who works for FREE, you help them and you help yourself and you help the image of our country. And, you do the right thing.
