Info on any other cses appreciated as well. I know about HTL, but dont like their program (no grammer and is very expensive - 2,500,000 pesos 120 hrs) and about interlingua which tried to charge 80,000 pesos an hour.

The contact I tred ofr national uni didnt work.

Javeriana - Español para extranjeros Hi,

I´m currently studying at Javeriana. They have intensive courses that run for 6 weeks (the last course started last Monday). Not cheap at around $2million per course but it is better than unreliable private tutors and seems more professional than UNational.

The best thing to do is to give them a call on 320 8320 and ask for Maritza on extn 4620. She can give you the exact address, better to go there and discuss everything.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Sue

Perhaps more professional.... Perhaps Javeriana are more professional than the Naçional, but I thoroughly enjoyed my Español para Extranjeros course at the universidad naçional and the teaching was of excellent quality. It also has the slight advantage of being 1/6 (300 mil pesos vs. 2 millones) of the cost of Javeriana even though its only 1/2 (60 vs 120 hrs) of the time (not to mention that class time is much more concentrated at Javeriana, with their classes being four or five hours at a time - maybe some Javeriana alumni can tell us whether they found they could concentrate for that long but I know I certainly couldn´t)

I can't believe that you are finally going to take the plunge and learn Spanish, after all these visits to Colombia and South America. I wonder what your Spanish will sound like with an Ozzie accent lol. Good Luck Amigo

My girlfriend studies at Javeriana and if their standard of Spanish lecturing is the same as the standard of English, then I would highly recommend this place.
I visited Javeriana once to enquire about Spanish classes and happened to watch an English lesson take place, the lecturer was very well spoken and the class appeared to be of a very professional set up.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes I am Australian. Javeriana is very expensive for the lessons at 2 million pesos. I think I will try and have a look at National. Thanks again all.

Lostgringo, yes many trips here, but i finally took the plunge earlier this year. I have taken spanish cses in Bogota (HTL basic cse 120 hrs), and various weeks in Guatemala and Panama (1 on 1), but want to get much better. My spanish with the accent is pretty horrible I imagine. Went to Eafit in Medellin and ended up level 6 in the test but they didnt have any other students to start another cse with me.

Spanish Lessons SpanishBogota, a new company, is offering tailored Spanish lessons in your office or home, at a cost of $35.000 per hour, or $300.000 for 10 hours.

These are the prices for one-to-one, discounts are available for groups. These classes are not for everyone - they may be more expensive than some, but are very flexible and designed to get to help students with their specific needs, and quickly. Of course cost per hour is a useful benchmark, but sometimes it is more useful to think in terms of value for money.

All of our teachers are fluent spanish (not hard to find), but in additon have a language qualification and teaching experience.

In terms of reliability, private teachers can be hit-and-miss, but we manage the relationships and can ensure that a suitable teacher will arrive if, say, your regular teacher is unable to make it for whatever reason.

Managed by 2 Europeans, the website is SpanishBogota.com, although it is not up and running yet, but we do have a sister site InglesBogota.com for English lessons.

Please let me know if you would like any further information.

Kind regards,
Ana Maria / Paul

Spanish Lessons
Hi. I'm also interested in Javeriana and will probably go there this week to talk with them live.

http://www.javeriana.edu.co/Facultades/comunicacion_lenguaje/centro_lat/in_contact.htm

I've attended classes at HTL, which I think is good for Beginner and Intermediate but not sure how well they handle advanced. I would be interested in some private instruction from $35,000 is a bit pricey imho. Anyone know of any good private instructor I could get on Sat/Sun? Also what is a fair rate - obviously it is based on ability but I'm thinking $20k hour?

Cheers,
Don

Spanish Lessons Fair enough comment Don, yes you could get someone for $20.000-$25.000 an hour, but we are offering a different service.

Our service usually works out at $30.000 (for a commitment of 10 hours) and so is not significantly more expensive than independent private tutors.

The advantage is that in addition to excellent tuition (all tutors are qualified and have experience), you get reliability and the opportunity to work with different tutors.

Going to a university / institute is again a different option that will suit some people, but in terms of price / value for money / flexibility etc. I think we stack up pretty well.
