Spanish in Medellin

Does anyone know if Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana offers Spanish for foreigners or only at eafit?

EAFIT sucks. Don't bother unless you only need to learn the alphabet ot how to count to 10. The problem is that they have teachers who have no idea how to teach. I don't care if they are native speakers - I could teach you more than them.

Colombia might be more fun than Mexico, etc., but I would consider this.

I doubt Medellín would be more fun than Lago Atitlan in Guatamala and the schools there are awesome. The lake is beautiful, there are people partying and you are surrounded by volcanoes. Lastly it's cheap, and there are tons of Spanish schoold dotted around the lake. The Spanish spoken is very clean and there is no Medellín accent to contend with. Learning Spanish in Medellín would not be my 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice. If you must do Colombia Bogotá baby!

But Lago Atitlan is gorgeous and the schools are the best and everything is cheap. I'm not recommending any schools - the best thing is to try different teachers and find the one that works best for you. The teacher is the most important thing.

Guatemala does indeed have some very good spanish schools.

For serious (and VERY cheap) study I'd go to Quetzaltenango (Xela).

The Spanish spoken in Medellin is in my opinion the best spanish in the world. I am pleased to have picked up my Spanish from this region of the world. Now even Bogotanos here tell me i sound like a paisa :)

Learning Spanish will be easy as long as you do not surround yourself with anyone English. But then again, I know this Italian who has lived in Toronto for 25 years, and does not speak one word of English. Actually, that doesn't negate my point, he just hangs around Italian people. Same with people who live in spanish speaking countries. Be with spanish speakers only, force yourself to learn, and you'll do it no matter where you are. The grammar is not hard to teach to yourself, to be honest.
