south american made planes???

I just read that Copa airlines bought Brazilian planes to travel from panama to Barrranquilla. If they think I’m gonna fly on plane made in Brazil, they gotta be crazy, for that matter why not have the damn plane made in Colombia, is the same s—t. For complete peace of mind I want my black ass in a good ol American, English or French made plane. I like Brazil and all that, but as far as them or any south american country making planes, I just don’t know about that.

You've already done it. Brazil makes great planes. Embraer pretty much owns the small commuter plane market.

Albatross says on Dec 16, 2005, 09:50:

Embraer Yes, they are a good company... located in Sao Jose just about midway between Rio and Sao Paulo. Between them and Bombardier in Canada, they pretty much have the commuter plane market wrapped up. I actually sent them my resume a couple of years ago, but they were only looking to hire people at their Miami office. They are just about the highlight of Brazilian technology.

brazilian planes ok Embraer planes are reliable.

go to airsafe.com and read about fatalities involving all types of planes. all in all, you're ok with an Embraer.

guys thanks for the info, but I still plan to get my ass nice and super super drunk before i fly copa and their brazilian fleet.

Mr. Hollywood says on Dec 16, 2005, 13:57:

Keyword Copa Doesn't matter what kind of plane it is if it's maintained by Copa, get drunk and pack your own chute. Though now that I think about it, wasn't it Avianca whose jet just ran out of fuel and crashed in Long Island a decade or so back?

Cubana Air Lines Hey Elmo:
Two weeks ago I took Cubana Air out of Bogota for Cuba. Seriously you will need alot of booze to feel ok on this flight lol. Put your carry on baggage in the compartments overhead. Just one long shelf with stuff hanging all over the place. All along the sides of these compartments you can see patches..where they have glued stuff over holes etc. Looks like some kids patched pants lol. Look at bottom of the seats in front of you and you will see places where they have re-welded them. Pretty scary stuff. And if that isn't enough all the exits and warnings are in Russian. I have no idea of when these planes were made. Only good thing is there was lots of leg room. I can tell you one thing, I would fly with any other airline except this one. Good thing is the booze was free lol.

Embraer Builds Jets In China Embraer has a joing venture that builds airplanes in China so maybe Elmo won't have to worry about the plane being built in Brazil.

My experience with Chinese built pickups and SUVs is so good that we are going to order them for Colombia as well.

I do not know if you are aware but just several days ago Colombia purchased 25 war planes from Brazil.

Another vote for Embraer... my dad was a fighter pilot for many years and he was fully convinced that Embraer was the way to go.

Also, try some Xanax. I hope the flight goes quickly for you! I hate to fly unless someone I know is flying the plane, which doesn't happen much anymore.

Good luck! I'm sure it will be ok but I know how it is to worry.

Brazil also makes the world's best helicopters, and has the most helicopters per person out of any country!

I think Avianca is the world's oldest airline still in business too BTW!
Given the geography of those countries its not much of a surprise they're so heavy into air!

I love shoes made in Brazil, I also like their booze just as much as I love Colombian made clothing, candy, butifarras etc. but I’m still not convince that my precious black ass is safer in one of their (Brazil) planes than American made. When Colombians wanted to buy Spanish weapons and planes, my first reaction, are they freaking nuts? FARC aint got no Spanish weapons, those crazy modefoques got AK-47 which makes them much better armed and this thing about buying Spanish war planes, that’s ludicrous, I bet you could knock them down with a freaking cocoanut.
Hey modefoque what do you have against anything that South American or Spanish? Nothing! I just don't think they (us) have the technology (not yet anyway) as gringos and some European countries. Listen, nobody makes a better baseball cap or t-shit than south Americans, not even in the USA, leave that shit to us, but making things to annihilate people in mass quantity, leave that to the gringos, those modefoques could wipe out every single sonamanbiche on this planet if they wanted to. Let’s take natural disaster vs. the USA. The tsunami took a few days to wipe out over 500 thousand people, shit the USA took second to wipe more than that, Hiroshima’s and Nagasaki. Leave planes and all that high tech stuff to the gringos; let’s stick to making good freaking shoes.

Albatross, I knew there was a logical explanation for this; I just know that Brazilian or anyone else in South America for that matter CAN NOT possibly be smarter than Colombians. Listen , I’ve been bad mouthing Colombians for quite a while and even infuriated most Colombian women, but I will give them credit when is due and I think the Colombian elite are by far the most cultured and educated in all south America, are they selfish, racist, clasista modefoques? yessss. Another thing I give Colombians credit for is their pilots, that’s why the idea of boarding a Brazilian made plane with Panamanian pilots gives me a bad case of cagadera (the runs). In all my many trips to Colombia I’ve only flown with Avianca, there’s nothing more assuring than to see those serious, tight lip little cachaco modefoques in their captain uniform heading toward the Avianca plane, in my humble opinion the best pilots in the business, they all got nerves like Pablo Montoya. Hey, when flying within the United States I feel quite safe with a 50 something gringo, ex-Vietnam F -14 pilots staggering toward the cockpit, and it don’t matter how drunk that modefoque is, he just knows how to fly that damn thing, is in his 47% alcohol blood.

Embraer is safe! Embraer is a safe airplane, kind of small...but its a gentle ride on a clear, perfect day. NOW.......on a day with thunderstorms and rain, expect a lot of turbulence and sudden drops.

Embraer w/bad pilots and a bad day = disaster.
