They will be held from March 19 - 31, 2010. Here is a link to the official site: http://www.medellin2010.org/home/

They will use most of the sports facilities in the stadium area and they will also use the golf courses etc. Here is a list of the activities involved in the games:

Will this kind of event REALLY draw much in the way of tourists to the city? I don't know, I'm in Vancouver, and we're bracing for winter olympics 2010, but a few weeks just after that people are expected to go to a city with the reputation (clearly unfounded in many cases) that it has, just to catch like...almost olympics. I'm not sure, but we'll see, I know I'd love to be there during that time, just to check it out.

I'm assuming the South American Games are different from the Pan American games? I can't find a list of participating countries. It should be quite busy here even if it's just SA as many Colombians will want to attend as it's as close to an olymics as they may ever be able to see.

Just like the flower festival parades, especially the silleteros parade, man i have never run into so many pick pockets. i was standing about 15 feet from a cop and in 1/2 hour 5 different people came up complaining about their pockets getting pick pocketed.

The most complained about theives were the pregnant lady and her male companion. She used her pregnant belly as a tool to distract people. she bumped you with the belly and using that as a distraction they emptied the pockets of many people.

In 2006 i caught 5 people sticking their hands in my backpack that was hanging off the front of me.

Its not worth it.
