Colombia and UAE signed an agreement allowing up to 28 weekly flight frequencies between Bogota and Dubai. Portafolio says that operations will start this year with one daily flight, but they don't clarify which airline will start it.

viajero123 (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jun 5, 2009, 10:01: I'm not sure if there is enough traffic between Colombia and the Middle East for a daily flight, but maybe they'll start with less flights and try to use Bogota as a hub for the region.

kramer says on Jun 5, 2009, 15:23: This could be the best link from South America to Southeast Asia which is a major vacation destination. And Dubai is a major hub to get there. Until now, the flights have been prohibitively expensive. I think it is about the same distance in both directions around the globe to get there from Colombia (in fact, going East may be slightly shorter).

Londoner says on Jun 5, 2009, 17:59: I agree with Kat and Johnny,we need a London direct flight fast.I miss the Avianca flight that they pulled in the wake of 9/11.Anyway Bogota -Madrid -Dubai sucks. The obvious route is Bogota -London -Dubai,which puts the whole world at the feet of Colombians with enough cash without entering US.And by the way Loggi,Emirates is a great airline ,their airport lounges are the best.

medefockinllin says on Jun 5, 2009, 18:12: Avianca never pulled the flight in the wake of 9/11 - they simply failed to pay their fees to Gatwick airport and had the plug pulled on them.

A desert is definitely not my first pick for where to build a megopolis. What happens when the oil runs dry?

bickerss says on Jun 6, 2009, 09:50: I think thats why they built the city into a tourist destination and business centre rather than relying on the oil. Investment Strategy - buying when others are crying!! Offloading when others are gloating!!! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

viajero123 (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jun 6, 2009, 10:20: bickerss, very interesting article. What pisses me off the most is that the developed world expats take part in the "modern slavery". So on the one hand their governments go and tell developing countries to have better labour laws and human rights protection, and then their citizens go to these countries and treat their employees this way.

Thats what happens when a government gives people something for free maybe. Even worse in Kuwait. Investment Strategy - buying when others are crying!!
