What, exactly, are you looking for? All the happily married/dating men to chime in and say "I have a great woman, doesn't everyone else?"

I could, and it would be true, but I've been brought up to feel that such boasting is in bad taste (and might bring misfortune). I could also go on about have I have a good job, great kids, nice house, etc. But that, too, would seem, at the very least, impolite.

Usually people who are motivated enough to post about such things are those who are trolling for fresh meat and are hoping to glean some information or those who have been dumped and need a place to vent. The happy ones are too busy enjoying their life to sit down and brag about it on an internet chat board.

Consequently, you see what you see.

If Elmo were in Colombia and not in NYC waiting for the next sanitation emergency ;) you can bet he'd be busy with his women and not sitting around PBH telling everyone what a good time he is having.

I’m close to retirement and will have enough to get by. I have grown children in the USA and grand children who are fairly well setup. So my new wife and her family will be my primary focus.

I may be able to set them up in some kind of business to ease their situation. But it is early days yet and I will need to understand them better and to get their input before acting.

In studying the society there I came across what I originally thought was a small charity in Barranquilla. Evidently it is famous and devoted to helping people injured by the landmines planted by the guerillas. I had mentioned it to my wife and she expressed an interest in assisting also My feeling was if only I could clean toilets (I don’t have a big ego; and perhaps could get some pointers from Elmo) it would be a help and encouragement. Basically what I am seeking is action on a personal level and also to be an example to others who can be motivated to do likewise. Every little helps as the little boy said as he peed in the ocean!

The most important thing is to want to be part of the cure instead of part of the problem.

Imagine a webiste called "the busty cheerleaders" but the paricipants and photos are 65 year men smoking stogies. You can't trust titles these days.

Agreeing with UC, this site is what it has turned into - a break from study hall.

A club, regardless of what it's called, is really only what the members are. I've been a reader for 16 months. With the exception of a few posters of mixed background and experience, the active members controlling this site are:

Guys who can't get laid in their own country thinking they are studs in Colombia(20%)

and

Guys who married a Colombiana who decided beforehand to accept a foreigner to relocate her so that she could feed her kids(70%)

These are the members or experts here you're dealing with.

The first group feels the need to brag in cyberspace because let's face it, they don't have the money to execute the same plan in their home country and their currency goes along way in emerging countries. Rich guys in their own home country get the same sex and attention from hot gringas as this group gets in Colombia.

The second group comes here to comiserate with fellow chums who have shopped for a foreign bride and need advice with the greuling visa process. After that they feel they have some tie to Colombia and need to come here and pontificate, being the experts on Colombia that they are, now that they have "obtained" a Colombian wife and kids and have visited Colombia twice - once to check out her ass and the second for paperwork/marriage interview - they need to do more saving.

The thing FUNNIER THAN EMLO is that these 2 groups are lying to themselves saying "I'm a stud because women in Colombia are all over me!" The tycoon that married Anna Nicole Smith at least was honest enough with himself to say, "She's after my money - like I care".

The third group(10%) is comprised of Colombians in Colombia, Colombians who have relocated to gringolandia - or - Gringos who are looking or are already: working, studying, living or just exploring Colombia.

Suprisingly this site is 90% group #1 and #2 driving out those in group #3 that stop in. Also, in the process, group #1 and #2 ends up portraying gringos as arrogant, adding to the huge animosity that comprises the 'Solo in Español' section here.

Is it any wonder that Elmo is the funniest fokin' guy here and has the hugest following? I actually fly back to the states just to read his posts because I have a "No English in Colombia" rule. And now with his buddy, the "Kid from Brooklyn" - Totally worth the airfare!

I've been reemed out on this site for contributions and insight into Colombia. I feel I have a great deal to add - but this is not the site for that.

I only defined the categories(broad, yes they are) based on the information collected from this site. Feel free to categorize yourself. I'm only offering reasons why this site is what it has become and my broad generalization used to depict the common poster here is only to illustrate a point - not to exactly predict someone's situation and then stuff them into a category. With no disrespect intended I say thanks for sharing your story and me, being an ex teacher, I appreciate your regard for educating.

In all honesty I came to this site three months before a planned trip to Colombia - my first trip. This in order to learn about Colombia. In as little as one week I realized that much of the information delivered here was from the same source: Someone who had visited the tourist areas of Colombia twice and now has a Colombian wife living in the states. Upon returning from that trip 13 months ago, four of the biggest, most prominent posters on this site bashed me, demanding proof when I reported that 80% of Colombians didn't have hot water. These were the guys giving me advice and insight into all things Colombian! So much for learning anything here.

I had been to Colombia on my first trip for only 5 days and knew more than the sources here - because I didn't stay in a hotel, in a tourist area, taking my future bride to a fancy restaurant or maybe to Cartagena (Vacation baby!). I spent time talking to real people who weren't just there to check out the gringo hubby. My original trip to this site and to Colombia was to find out about real life and to see if Colombia could be a new future home for me. It is.

Unfortunately I am selfish and feel that if I can't learn something, because I know more than the teacher, or the conditions are not conducive to learning, I need to change schools. I have. Long ago.

I too would also like to contribute experiences and exchange quality banter, but there are not enough participants here for that to take place. Mostly because the participants don’t care about Colombia, they will not move there, they could not live there and they do not have passion for Colombia - but they have a tie to this site because of a bride or future bride or… pick a category from my original post.

Like someone said, you really can't take this site seriously. Que lástima.

As for the frigging hot water, I've stayed in at least 20 private homes in Colombia and I've always had hot water. I must be running with the hoi polloi of hot water. Although when I asked my wife, she did agree with you - a large majority of Colombians do not have hot water. She also says that if she had met such a cool guy like Rocinante in Colombia she never would have taken up with my sorry gringo ass.

In other words time.......the passage of time......is forcing people to want to see the forum "open up" some more. Opening up the forum includes talking about the forbidden fruits. I'm not saying that the site should be dedicated to talking about Colombian women. But there should not be this outright ban on it either just so you can appease a few ladies that find it offensive. Whether Tinto and Peter know it or not, a quick scan of the threads for the last month has shown that the topic comes back again and again albeit sometimes it's not so obvious at first. Other threads have been very obvious and forward and yet moderation has allowed them to proceede. I think even they realize it has been a losing battle to try and delete every thread that touches on women. Look, when people think of G5, they don't associate me with me with talking about women, sex and dating. They associate me with being PBH's biggest scare mongerer. On the other hand, at one time I was not a fan of guys going to Colombia to marry the girls (just ask Mario) but I really did change in that regard, and in some ways, it was Mario among others that helped me change. Nothing philosophical about it. I just figured who the fuck am I to be telling other people what they should be doing with their lives? If they're happy, who am i to say otherwise? So despite my stuborn nature, I can come around.

See Mario touched on it. The need to expand the content and format of the debates.....some chatting..BSing...something needs to be thrown into the mix here. CB attempts to do it. I like the format, especially the part where you can easily address someone's quote in your post. But from what I understand, (UC claims) moderation can be a bit heavy handed there too.
