Soda Water & Sangia in Colombia

So I'm looking at a Sangria recipe online from a US website and it refers to Soda Water.. what exactly is "soda water?"

It is plain carbonated water? Flavoured carbonated water, or is it a specific type of soft drink/pop?

Ahh and um, does anyone know if there are any typically Colombian varieties of Sangria (I don't have any Aguardiente).

In Spain they gave me this sangria, but instead of soda water, they put Cava, Cava it's like champagne only that they can't call it champagne, and it taste wonderful, try it.

You don't put Soda Water in Sangria... what the hell! US website...
You put sparkling wine (Spanish Cava, Italian Spumante or whatever), demi-sec (not brut, nor sweet) would be better!
Cava or Spumante don't taste like french Champagne, big difference... but some are much cheaper, that's why they use it in Sangria.

The spanish do not seem to like sangría I've been living in Spain for a year, and traveling a fair amount across it, and I am yet to find a spaniard that serves or drinks sangría. It seems like only tourists, mostly the english and gringos, order it. Is there any region of Spain (or time of year), where people here drink sangría? BTW, I have seen recipes for sangría which call for soda water, or several other carbonated drinks, including ginger-ale.

My Sangria Recipe This is my personal sangria recipe which is always a success at most parties. It's easy and after a couple of glasses you'll be feeling...well... ready for a bullfight.

1 bottle of brandy
1 liter of red wine
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 red apples diced
1 orange (thin slices)

Mix everything well and put it in the refrigerator until it's time to serve.

Enjoy!

Thanks Ahh.. I thought it might be carbonated water, but wasn't sure. Thanks Jaramillo!

Robi: Hmmm champagne/cava... sounds like a much better alternative for touch of fizz, I'll check it out.

Colombiaboard: Wow, 1 bottle of brandy? Geez a couple glasses of that, and I might have to start confiscating keys... or having sleepovers... LOL ;)

I have no idea how popular it is in Spain, but I know that it usually goes over quite well for long summer evening barbecues!

Oh My God... Ooops.... I guess I got carried away... it's not one full bottle of Brandy, it's a full glass... a standard glass, more or less a cup.

But I suppose someday I'll try the full bottle of Brandy....
