Social Cleansing in Bogota

Colombia investigates the killing of five indigent residents of Bogota
1 day ago

BOGOTA, Colombia — Bogota's mayor says he's concerned that five indigent people found shot to death in the Colombian capital may have been the targets of social cleansing.

The victims, ranging in age from 18 to 35, were found before dawn in the Ciudad Bolivar slum of the capital.

Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno says the victims evidently earned money by collecting cans for recycling and were known as drug users.

He calls the killings unsettling and says it would be terrible if it's a case of social cleansing.

Bogota police are offering a reward of $8,000 US for information leading to the capture of those responsible

SOme people say the goverment has something to do with it, saying that these people don´t contribute anything to society. This is an interesting video on the subject http://www.vbs.tv/shows.php?show=1018

A while ago there was quite a lot of this, but they were killed mainly to sell their organs in the black market.

If the social cleaners really want to get rid of the social rubbish, they should start the social cleansing by shooting me in the first place.

This is just spanglish, please do not correct me

"$50.00 a pop"???? no way man... these guys do it for fun. What's a better way to enjoy the night after getting turned down by dozens of girls because you are a dirt bag than to carry on your drunken state and target practice with 'desechables'. That is if you weren't able to book a prepago or it's too late for the brothel.

romy, back about '90, i was with my secretary in the 'skids' downtown getting an antique pocket watch repaired, in an area below the metro on the far side of the nutibara. my sec. was talking with el relojhero and i was just standing in the door watching the street.

across the street, was some old, homeless, shoeless man...what clothes he had were ragged and tattered...he was just pathetically wandering down the street. down the street cmes this kid on a moto who pulls out an automatic and shoots this old man about 5 times, right in front of me.

the impact of the bullets, literally picked the old guy up and slammed him into a brick wall along side the sidewalk.

the kid briefly stops, literally blows the smoke outta the barrel of his gun, sticks it in his waist band and drives off...not in a panic or rush. just oh so casually drove off.

i was in shock, i asked th clockman if he saw that.....his reply....no, i saw nothing, and neither did you. period.

I don't think they were paid, yet they could have very well been... Very easily a narco (or a not so 'illegitimate' oligarch) walking by that street earlier that day was disgusted when this old man asked him for some change that later he calls his 'guy' that makes the arrangement for the 'social cleansing'.
Truly I'm disgusted by it. and though it's also sickening the reaction that your clockman and you took, I can hardly blame you because of the implications attached. Many of us know the gravity and disasters that impunity causes, but the system isn't yet ready for a change in that matter. Remaining quiet is what most Colombians would do and what I would advise my friends visiting the country...

woah, romy....i didn't mention what my reaction was...only that of the watch man. mine was to almost puke.

another witnessed killing...oddly enough, another penniless old man in rags, in barrio triste (can you dig the name). i was with my dad and brother. this old ragged man was helping another old man 'schlep' a log (triste is where the bodegas de madera are) we were looking for a truck to haul my wood purchases to our workshops around medellin.

some guy walks up and shoots that old man a number of times, belts his piece and walks off. it didn't even stop traffic. with hundred and hundreds of folks around, no body saw a thing...duh! "what shooting"

it's like these were practice 'pops' in both instances. just fulfilling iniciatian rights for gangs or warming up for a 'hit' someplace else, of some one of "importance". for sure, nobody had contracts on these two old dispossessed street walkers. pour souls.

but i agree with you, if you like living or don't have an army of espaldas, you're ciega. and didn't see a thing. period.

a mayor domo was murdered outside my bar by his dueno and absolutely nothing was done about it. when the major (el ejercito) arrived, everyone knew each other, and sat down ordered a couple of beers and agreed with the murderer, that a worker cant be allowed to insult his dueno and get away with it. after about an hour, the two shook hands and parted company...the major drove off and the 'fincero' returned to his ranch. fin. they just left the body there to be claimed by the family some time later. no investigation...end of story. what killing?
