Soccer/football

I will be traveling to colombia for the first time since i was born there and am a fan of the soccer league, especially Deportivo Cali. How much are tickets to see the other teams and will the season still be on by the time i get there?(July and August)

Hey it's great to hear from a fellow Colombian football fan, there aren't a lot of those in this site. Most people just like the national team and all the paraphernalia around it, but know little or nothing about the sport itself and the professional league. Those aren't real fans in my book.

Anyway, ticket prices in Bogota are between 7 and 25 thousand pesos.

Here's a link to this year's calendar:

of course el Deportivo Cali! Hey Caliche83!
I`m soo glad you said deportivo Cali, if you would have said America de Cali then you would have broken my heart. Your timing is quite bad because you`re coming in the middele of the two copas. You`re coming just when the first copa is finishing and then leaving more or less before the second one starts. If you`re lucky you might be able to catch a couple of games. In cali and in Medellin prieces are around 12.000 to 25.000 pesos.

vamos azucareros! I'm for Deportivo Cali too, I even have the jersey to prove it! Last time I was in Cali (two years ago) I went to Pascual Guerrero to see Deportivo Cali play a Copa Libertadores match.

Cheers,
Desi

Tomorrow: "Clásico" in Bogotá And my beautiful Santa Fe (how do you like that translation?) is going to show what it is made of... when is Millos going to get out of the "crisis"?

ONCE CALDAS 4 CHIVAS 2 Speaking of our colombian clubs, how about the ASS-WHOOPING that Once Caldas gave to the Chivas Rayadas de Guadalajara (that has got to be the dumbest name I've ever heard for any football team!) in the Copa Libertadores?

It was great to watch the game on Fox Sports and listen to the biased mexican commentators almost have a seizure as their beloved team was being pummeled by a team they thought they were going to roll over easily, ha ha!

Hey, I like this... everybody's 'coming out'.

Mi estimado Sr Tertius, don't get me started! To answer your question about the Millos crisis, please see this
article from yesterday's ELTIEMPO.

Oh, and by the way, please remind me how long it's been since Santa Fe added a start to its name.

Football season I love football (even more than hockey and I'm from Canada ~ what would my friends do to me if they heard me saying this? I wouldn't want to guess!) and I was hoping to catch a game or two while visiting Colombia during July and August. From what I read in an earlier comment to this post, I believe by Cessi, that this may not be possible. I may have misunderstood, but could someone please clarify. Gracias

I can't be too rough on Millos Because some of my best friends are die-hard Millos fans, and I must respect that.

True, we've been waiting for Santa Fe to get a star since 1974 (which I guess makes us sort of like the Red Sox of Colombian fútbol), but I can't remember a single time we've been on the verge of descending to the B-league ;) ... certainly not the kind of stuff that makes people excited about a team, but Santa Fe is not about that... it's hard to articulate. I guess I'll leave it like that.

By the way... anyone interested in Colombian football should visit futbolred.com. Great site with world football news with special attention to all things related to Colombian teams and stars. There are also some good columnists on futbolred, not the most famous ones, but that's actually a good thing.

hmm Desi you went to the game cali played against Boca? I went to that one too. And yes, once a cali fan always a cali fan.

And yes Once Caldas played a great game, hopefully Junior will do as great tonight in the copa libertadores.

Cessi, the game I saw was Deportivo Cali vs. Libertad de Paraguay, March 11, 2003 at pascual. I saw the match right after that when Cali played against Boca in Argentina on large screen in one of the cafés on Avenida sexta.

Cheers,
Desi

caliche you are arriving just in time for the start of the Copa Mustang II 2005.
The season starts on July 10th. Cali are away to 'el poderoso' Medellin, and are at home 7 days later to Junior (should be a good match), but surely the match you will not want to miss is el clasico valluno - America v Cali on the 24th of July....if Cali win just don't wear anything green 'cause them americanos are sore losers.
I'm what you call a true fan (you'd have to be to support Quindio, and we haven't won anything since '56), everytime I'm back home I never miss a home game...next time I go I want to catch a few away games.
Good luck and all the best

Mauro
