And the electronic highway signs are saying we need to take hurricane precautions .... gas up! When Rita hit I flew back from Michigan that very morning and brought canned food and batteries with me (I figured it would be easier than trying to go to the store in Houston on the day the hurricane was supposed to hit). Hey GS. I got to this thread late. I don't care if you tell people where I live. Technically, it is Miramar Beach. But, most people call the whole area Destin. It is right between Panama City Beach and Pensacola. It probably is one of the most affluent areas of Florida. The US's largest private fishing fleet. I believe 12 golf courses in the immediate area - one just hosted a PGA event 2 weeks ago. The sand isn't sand (silicon); it is pulverized quartz crystal. Anyway, if you want to organize the event GS, I'll do some work on my end and find us a pad on the beach. The best months are September / October, and April / May. Most of the tourists are gone, the rent is low(er), and the weather is perfect.

Festivos during busy season ... not really. All of the festivals are off season. The biggy is the Destin fishing rodeo. It is the entire month of October. I am telling you, off season is the best time. Right now for example, it is bumper to bumper traffic. Hotter than crap, just no fun in my opinion ... but I am open to anytime. Really, the only bad months are November through February. Lots of people here, but they are all blue hairs from Wisconsin and Canada. I am telling you, October is perfecto. The water is still 80 degrees, there is little or no rain, and no crowds. The rent is typically 1/4 of what it would be in July for beach rentals. If you are looking for chicas, better go to Miami, or come here in March or April (college spring breaks).

And screw the chitlans. If you have to have cow stomach, I'll gladly prepare some authentic sopa de mondongo. I can do sopa de menudencias and sancocho too.
