hi!
I went to the Venezuelan consulate at Bogota today to apply for a Venezuelan visa, I was refused to even request one because Im a foreigner and they have enough colombian passports to process!! I was told i should apply it from my country of origin...Mauritius...long way back.
I really want to go to venezuela anyway to see a friend at isla margarita, wonder if anyone who have been to venezuela through Cucuta tell me what it is like?
I was told that the bus doesnt stop at the border to get the passports stamped?
What do u think about the idea of sneaking in anyway?
Does that ferry on moonless night from Santa Marta to Isla Margarita really exisit? :P
Saludos!
Shaheen

juanalejo says on Dec 17, 2007, 16:05: No border control, but plenty of road blocks on the way through Venezuela, and the Venezuelan security forces are not the nicest people in the world. So I highly discourage your venture, it is really calling for trouble.

jorgegdiaz says on Dec 18, 2007, 04:38: It´s up to you to stamp your passport in the Venezuelan side. However there are lots of road checkpoints (alcabalas). It´s been about 9 years since I last drove through Cucuta. Man with hole in pocket feel cocky all day. |

shaheen says on Dec 18, 2007, 04:47: well im just annoyed, to be refused to request a visa :( thats insane... maybe its not a good idea..no one seems to have posted a positive or hopeful post. Im morena and people in Colombia think im colombia until i speak for like more than 5 minutes... thought i could be discreet among the locals...

shaheen says on Dec 18, 2007, 07:06: I study in Chile.. but its still a long way back. The obnly reason i want to go to venezuela is to a see a friend and she happens to live on isla margarita!! Im really impressed with Colombia since im here. I am currently at a hostel in Candelaria staying for free in exchange of 2 hours of english lessons a day to an employee. I was planning to go to isla Margarita to relax on the beach for like 2 weeks and come back to colombia and look for a job in an english institution when the semester resumes.....

Chriscan says on Dec 18, 2007, 14:40: A couple of years ago I took a cheap bus to Venezuela via the coastal route. There were a few Colombians without visas and there was about 5 checkpoints and each took a little money from them. The last one made a girl get off the bus and I don't know what happened to her. ************* WARNING ************* my words often come from my ass |

guacharaca says on Dec 18, 2007, 14:46: Shaheen...it appears that you have been "front doored" by the Embassy in Bogota. Have you thought to try the Venezuelan Consulate in Cartagena? (or is it Barranquilla?). They may treat you differently.

shaheen says on Dec 18, 2007, 19:50: Guacharaca, I actually never thought about that. Didnt realise that there could be a venezuelan consulate in other cities of Colombia. Too used to always having to got o the Capital to find consulates.... well there s a radical change in my travel plans now. I am actually going back to Mauritius for only two weeks hopefully and come back to Colombia. Basically I want to stay in Colombia, teach english, keep taking circus classes, painting, involved in many activities...hopefully be able to apply for a work visa. This does involve dropping out of university. I believe I learn a lot more by travelling .Something i cant tell my parents over hte phone and I have to go down there and explain..i havent been back home for over a year anyway.
