I am arriving at 9:45PM in to Bogota International Airport, and will be connecting to Cartagena at 7:30AM the next morning. I was wandering would it be a total waste to stay at the Bogota Sheraton for 130 American dollars, or just collect my luggage and rough it in the airport until morning. I have been to a website regarding people's views of staying in the Bogota Airport overnight, but sadly found it not extremely helpful. I have a late night arrival in to Bogota upon entering Colombia and leaving on my trip, with a early departure the following morning. Are there any cheaper hotels as an option, if I decide to leave the airport for the evening. I am finding it difficult to attain reservations in a hotel this early, since my trip is in March 2007, and I am told to wait until late November to search for vacant rooms. I rather get the lodging situated now, instead of later. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

vicshere says on Aug 7, 2006, 06:13: no problem Staying at the airport on the upper level is no problem at all .....I didn't make my connection a couple of weeks ago and slept in the waiting area with a whole lot of other people doing the same....suggest you try to sleep on the benches rather than the floor as the floor gets pretty cold also take a warm jacket or a blanket in your luggage...remember to pick up your luggage.... arriving at 9:45 you wouldn't get out of the airport till almost midnight.....then you have to be back at the airport at 5:30 am ....get a taxi at midnight arrive at hotel at 1 get to sleep by 2 and get up at 4:30 sounds like a lot of work for 2.5 hours of sleep...the bench at the airport was much easier....1 more tip on the upper level there is a National Police post there and they are open all night.....just pick a bench within ear shoot....no problem with security....except the lady who keep asking to help her to fly home to Peru.....con con listo 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

untreated says on Aug 8, 2006, 14:59: I have done it And I would do it again, if I was travelling alone. Flying Continental Airlines from Houston gets into Bogota at 10 pm, and there's no flight to the coast until early morning. It's just so much simpler to wait it out at the airport.

rjstuff says on Aug 9, 2006, 12:39: Make sure to stay in the International terminal area - I do know that for local flights, they put you on a bus to the other side (maybe for only some local flights, but may be for all.) The local terminal is small, crowded and noisy even at midnight - I have sat there waiting for my late flight to Barranquilla - not a good place to sleep in my opinion. I assume the arrival area (the international terminal) is larger, spacious and good enough to sleep in. I have always just gotten on the bus (shuttle) to the local side to catch my flights, so don't know how good or bad the international area is, but it does look much bigger than the other terminal. Good Luck

Cerealkiller says on Aug 9, 2006, 18:34: I would reccomend a pillow and a nice blanket, its freezing at night and early mornings here in bogota...also, beware of getting any of your luggage stolen while you sleep, it happens all the time, so id reccomend you dont sleep...which might lead to actually wasting your 1st day in cartagena cause youre too tired...If i were you id just get a room at one of those airport hotels, its safer, you get to rest and enjoy your time in CTG. Mr. Hollywood says on Aug 10, 2006, 16:27: An option Hey, there's a famous "Love Motel" just outside the entrance to El Dorado called the "El Dorado Motel". You could rent yourself a nice room with lots of mirrors on the ceiling for less than $5 per hour. Probably get yourself a new "friend" to go with the room for only a little more.
