Look up Portillo Chile.... ski area near Santiago. Northern hemisphere national teams use this area for for training during the summer months.

Also check out Volcán osorno. It has its own website that you can probably find quite easily, I have been up there but not skied.

I skiied there about 2 months ago. I stayed in a great lodge/hostal in Farrelones for 25 dollars a night with meals included. You have the pick of 3 different ski areas, all accessible by mini combos every morning (or of course use the lifts) The best thing is its just a 1 hour drive from Central Santiago and all of the ski shops in the city have transportation services every morning. Think its about 30 dollars return. Heres the website

I had some great skiing there, it can get quite expensive (50 dollars per day lift passes) but still much cheaper than Europe.

I also skiied Portillo. A couple minute drive from the Argentine/Chilean border. You won't find any trees, but the skiing is very open (wide trails). The area is gorgeous with a beautiful lake. Portillo is very expensive, unless you stay in the convenient hostel. Last year there was a fantastic all-included (3 meals, snack, bed, skiing) deal.

The resort is very luxurious, if that is your thing. They even have a 'tea time' around 5pm.

I went through Portillo on the bus across the border and found it really ugly - traffic stained snow etc - Obviously I didnt see it all but I would personally still go back to Farellones - great views over Santiago too when you are skiing - you are never too far from Santiago too, if you fancy a couple of days break between skiing.

I bet that is so awesome! I skied Chile more than 5 yrs. ago in Sept. and the first part of the week in early Sept. was killer, -4 centrigrade and plenty of snow but by the end of the week above freezing and todo cambiando, getting slushy. At least I got the one good day. I stayed in Santiago and took the bus up both days. Ok for this but kinda a pain and long day to do for every day skiing.

The Hedge funds have all gone wild on us!
