My family is relocating in Cartagena this summer for a two year teaching job. We come from Alberta, Canada where my son (16 yrs) enjoys (actually lives and breathes) skateboarding. Do the local kids (or adults) skateboard there? We recently visited during the Easter break, so I know it is very hot and humid, but my son is concerned about his hobby and the move.... Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

I never did see anyone else in all the other cities I stayed at, but I did notice that Bogota had some nice places to skate. I did ask a few people if they liked to skate, and well they all said no. Maybe you should encourage your son to play soccer, he will have no trouble finding a place to play their.. Good Luck

We go to villavicencio and a lot of kids Skateboard there, the only problem is that to get stuff for the skateboard and the "skateboard" clothes and shoes, they have to go to Bogota. They usually go to a shop near Galerias shopping center, this shop supplied them with all the accesories, including the shoes . the cheapest skateboard cost about 140.000 COP but you know they like the "pro" ones and they are very expensive. I usually take stuff for my Nephew specially the griptapes. There are a lot of kids Skateboarders in Bogota too, only as you know they try to go to places where is more ramps and bumps. In cartagena maybe there are but you won't find them near the beach. I think is your son move into that circle you will find out that many kids skateboard there, the only problem I see in Cartagena is to find the skate shops, if they have any. it's more of a young people sport in Colombia, no like in the USA where you find adults doing it too, In Colombia I hardly seen and adult Skateboarding, well my brother try and nearly broke his back.

Cessi says on Apr 25, 2005, 14:54: not on the coast I love skateboarding and I used to skate all the time when I was back home. However living in colombia I had to change that. I lived in Barranquilla just next to Cartagena and I could say that no one skates over there. There's no skate parks and the streets are not made a good place for skaters. However, I later moved to Bogota and then Medellin and Manizales and all of them have skateboard parks and well they also have bycicle lanes all over the city soo you can skate there. In these cities you'll also find a significant skateboard crowd.
