Should I postpone my trip in late august to Medellin, Colombia???????????

This would be my first trip to Colombia, I dont speak the best spanish. Dont think there would be a big military operation to save little ol' me.

Ha Ha. This reminds me of a certain PBH member(who shall remain nameless) who called me late one night after the Rios raid to ask if it was safe to go to Colombia to see his lady.

According to my secret “Vietnamese media source" it is now safe to travel to Colombia as the Farc have been completely defeated…

I only have 1 friend there, And I am going alone. I have never been there before. I am unfamiliar with my surroundings. I really want to go, and I realize there is crime everywhere, but I do not know much about the recent events. I do not know what this situation could become. Im just asking myself what I should do. I am not a gladiator, nor am I paranoid, but just trying to make a smart descission. Thanks for the feedback!!!!

It's not dangerous, if you are one who naturally keeps your wits about you. I have been there 7 times in the last 1.5 years, and like a cat, not a dawg, I figure, I still have 2 lives left.
Things happen to people anywhere, but don't buy into the reputation of it being dangerous. It's not. If you get yourself killed though, don't call me. Oh, never mind, that shouldn't be a problem. just wanted to make sure I was legally covered in recommending it.

admittedly, arriving can feel great too

I'm in Cali now just got in from Bogota. At the airport waiting for the flight I saw a good ad campaign for tourism in Colombia. Large color posters near the ceiling with fotos of Bogota, San Andres, and Santa Marta. It said, "Colombia, the only risk is that you won't want to leave."

It's true.

Hola!

If you think you are afraid of Colombia, then you better go some where else, like Canada!

My GF met a guy like you online before she met me. He was told that Cali was so dangerous and he decided he would not visit. Well, I have been to Colombia 12 times to see her already and its his loss and my gain. See our baby's photo and my Spanish NOW is just good enough to say a few things!

well I never have in medellin but for example in bogota the difference in getting robbed or not is just walking in the wrong place that is 2 or 3 blocks away from the good places, so is pretty weird hahah

is like in bogota downtown you are in the 19 avenue with 7 or even 4 and is fine but you go to avenue 19 with 11 or with 15 or something and is most likely you get robbed ahha so yeah i guess if you dont know how to navigate or where to walk and go could be pretty dangerous , in bogota i have been tried to robbed many times and once even one guy tried to strangulate me with a chord ( but i must clarify i was walking alone late a t night in 26 avenue) ... not a single thing has turned bad but i have seen strange things...

other time i was walking in avenue 19 with 12 or 11 cannot recall is going straight from tequendama hotel down and three persons surrounded me ahha i was so stressed that day i behave very very neurotic, haha they just told me "calm yourself down" and let me go haahhahahaha cooountless times i been approached in bogota downtown but i pretend i dont have money and give a very conscious talk about what would happend to me if they take away all i have that is the money for the bus " supposedly" im like is you eting a bread tonight or me getting kill walking alone home so you decide my life or your bread ahah that have worked ,they yell at the others respect this girl respect her ahahha all that happened very late at night when the bogota downtown fills with homeless armed just with wooden sticks perhaps a knife ...

and if you need to escape from some weird situation please take a taxi never a bus or something , you dont know where the bus is heading and it could be heading for even a worse place ahha it happened to me , i was around plaza madrid in bogota downtown ( this is like from 5 years ago) in this huge ribbons store ,really cheap too as well went out and almost get robbed but took a bus and it said just san cristobal hahaha i thought was north san cristobal in 7 avenue with 165 so it could be good to get home anything that would take me there but the fucken bus was going to san cristobal sur hahaha one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in bogota , when it turn south in the temple for the divino ninno i realize i was in the wrong direction puff ----

I have no idea of who you are or what you like to do, but I promise you, you will not want to leave. Once you get here, you're home, no matter where you're from. See you here in Medellin.

yeah you are absolutely right, thank God there are no murders, muggings, gold diggers or pollution in the states!, Listen, Faustino, I am not saying we are perfect, we're not, but if you or someone you know had a bad experience, don't bad mouth my city because of it.
You cannot judge people like that, if we all did that, America would be thought of as simply the country with probably the most serial killers in history, and that hardly seems fair.
But I do love the idea of Disneyland, it is the happiest place on earth.

lol,Faustino, I am not going to argue with you, I actually think you're kind of funny, in an angry sort of way.... but I hate to think this is the image you have of us.
America is of course North America since anything south of the Rio Grande is considered Latin America.
And thank you for saying that the guys want to sleep with me, lol, I had such a crappy day today, that it actually made me smile.
I hope one day you change your mind about the 3rd world, I know I have.
