Shooters

In all my years I've never done shooters of rum. It's always been tequilla or wiskey. I can't do shoters of aguadiente/listerine. Now I do shooters of rum and I actually think i like it better than tekilla. Comments?

Guess that that tekilla will get ya everytime!

I don't like aguardiente because of anice. After almost killing myself with the heaviest Ouzo borrachera of my life, 20 years ago in Ios, Greece, I could not stand anice anymore.

isnt anice exactly like colombian aguadiente

listo

Stick to Colombian beer, except Aquila. Colombian beer reminds me of European beer. I don't know why Colombians, (or anyone) likes aguardiente. I guess you have to be born drinking it. It's not even cheap, but it is cheaper than the other liquors in the store. I think they should use all that sugarcane in the Valle for rum.

1300 Pesos for a bottle of Brava beats 6000 or 7000 Pesos for a shot of Scotch any day for me.

I'll take Rum anyday compared to Tequila/aguadiete! Get drunk once on the last two and you'll experience a "Guayabo Negro" (hangover) like you never had before! And which you will never want AGAIN IN THIS LIFETIME! LOL

I've had the most God-awful, skull-splitting hangover on rum. And you're telling me a tequila/aguardiente is worse! That's scary!

During carnavales in Barranquilla, many people wear a necklace that holds a shotglass which they use to shoot the liquor of their choice. I prefer rum in the cuba libre form, but a shot of Caldas with a lime works just fine. As far as guaro, I had an experience similar to robi666 years ago and gave it up until last year. A shot of guaro, a bite of lime and a little water chaser makes it smoother.

Lowell- thanks for bringing this important topic up for discussion. I'm always interested in new drinking techniques.

Now before you all judge this shooter as some kind of sissy drink, just remember that if you did four of these with beer chasers, you would be pleasantly shithoused. It goes down smooth, good aftertaste especially with a beer chaser, and no hangover. Well, I don't remember one, anyway.

1 oz Absolut Vodka
1 oz Bailey's irish cream
1 oz Kahlua
3/4 oz Grand Marnier

uaaak! gringoloid, it is a sissy drink! :-)

Gringoloid,

I would NEVER disparage another drinker's suggestions- but I bet a Cosmopolitan goes down smoth, etc, too- doesn't mean you'd ever catch me drinking one- in public, anyway! ;)

mmm.... pretty much a white russian with a splash of grand manier. take your skirt off and grow some balls. Just kidding Gringo Loid. Here are a few of my favorites from college.

Jedi Mind Trick
2 parts jager
1 splash baileys
1/2 splash buterscotch snappps
served chiled

Mind Eraser
in a 12 oz glass with ice pour
1/3 vodka
1/3 kaluha
1/3 sprite

pour in that order and DO NOT MIX. (floater shot)
stick a straw straight down to the bottom (without mixing the layers) and drink as fast as possible

Probalby won't find any of those ingredients in colombia, but i have been working on a suitable shot utilizing guaro and they all taste like shit. to me guaro smells like a cleaning product but it has effects similar to tequila (blackouts ect.)
there is a shot my austrailan friend invented. I forgot the name. you will need
1 large shot glass and one glass big enough to drop the shot glass in
in the shot glass pour
1 part guaro
1 part tequila
in the other glass pour
1 cold beer of your choice (if not cold use ice to chill)
drop shot glass into beer and chug.
then chug another beer to get the taste out of your mouth
wait a while and then puke

shoot scotch? noooo. It is meant to be slowly sipped so you can enjoy it down to every last delicious drop. ahhhhh scotch. the nectar of the gods http://www.scotch-whisky.org.uk/swa/files/QuestionsandAnswers062Englis...

I knew you guys were going to throw me under the bus. let me say this, there was a group of canadian and new york state hockey coaches that visited Las Vegas each year and it has become a tradition that we do mudslides and beers all night. these are some real bad asses.

Instead of one shot of vodka, use two.

how many of the stronger shooters can you do? plus its going to make you sick. plus they taste like shit, especially cosmopolitans. I ordered one for a colombiana in the states recently and neither one of us could even take a taste.

When I get back to Colombia, I will be in MDE and Cali; I challenge you guys to an evening of Mudslides and beers. You guys will make it a tradition too.

gringoloid says on Oct 1, 2007, 07:09:

Everybody laughs at that Baileys stuff, but I've been forced to use that in my coffee in the morning.

They don't have that Carnation 'french vanilla', amaretto, irish cream, etc., that we have in the states to mix in your coffee. I can't live without that stuff so I use Baileys in my coffee.

I usually pick up 3 half gallon jugs in Panama City on a layover., but I go through that awful fast and it is expensive.

Now my point is that everyone who visits me in Colombia also wants the Baileys in their coffee. They think it is quite good. You should see their faces light up when I ask how they want their coffee.

So if anyone wants a business in Colombia, develop some kind of irish creme to go into your Juan Valdez; you'll be rich in no time. Believe me, Colombians like this stuff and you would be first on the block.

Gringoloid, I was just yanking your chain.

I'm a sailor, and my drink of choice is the Barbadian delight, Mt. Gay rum. So who am I to talk? jajajajajjaja

Robert Jorge says on Oct 1, 2007, 22:24:

Off topic sort of; but the mandatory drink one was given on their 21st B-day at Ball State was a Buffalo Fart. 1 shot tequila. 1 shot Bacardi 151. And 1 shot Tabasco sauce. Stirred and then shot immediately. Guaranteed puking in 5 to 10 minutes. Don't ask ... but we all thought it was cool 15 years ago.

I was just giving you a hard time gringoloid. if it taste good then drink it

gringoloid says on Oct 2, 2007, 09:34:

i'm pullin your chains too.........i was just kidding around with the guys....

actually, I only drink one or two glasses of wine with dinner every night. i never was a drinker and spent most of my life after college not drinking at all. but the health benefits of a drink or two a day brought me back.

The Bay Area Bozo, in one of his many delusions and ad hominen attacks, accused me yesterday of hanging out in discos in Cartegena. On my own, I've *never* been to a bar or disco in Colombia. It's not my thing. Lived in Cartagena, MDE, and BOG---nunca!

There have been visitors from america and europe that have insisted that I meet them at the Irish Pub or the Bogota Beer Company in the pink zone and I went kicking and screaming.

Now Rubito tells me he is taking me to Las Americas and I think I'm going to go out of curiosity becasue I've never been there; he has a way of selling these nightclubs, so this will be the first time in a bar, my choice, in my year in Colombia. Nunca 8 years in California either.
