I've had 100% success! I have had 100% success with using USPS when shipping stuff from Iraq to Colombia. I did have 2 packages (out of about 10) shipped from the US to Colombia and they vanished into thin air! No return to the US... no customs problems... nothing!

DHL wanted $93 US to ship a padded envelope which would take 2 weeks. USPS took about a month but was $12. YOUR MILEAGE MAY DIFFER!

i don't know where your're shipping from... in the states (?), but 100 lbs is a bunch for the post. colombia has no postal system, but it works. a bit of an oxymoron, but true.

the only thing i/we ever lost was envelopes with nice stamps.

when something is addressed to some pueblo/city in colombia, it goes to some office and from there, it is sent by taxi, friends, bus driver, etc to it's destination. wierd but workable.

with a hundred lbs, you might want to ask a friend coming to colombia to bring it or send it by avianca. good luck.

USPS is the cheapest way to go with an average of 2 weeks for global priority airmail and 3 weeks for airmail partial post from the USA. There is no insurance, but I have 95% success with only 1 package not making it to Barranquilla and vanishing. It also helps if your contact here in Colombia tips the mailman, because they could decide to tax you if they think your item is not priced correctly or go xmass shopping. They like to tax anything that is $20 or more.

yo, outta here i would think that five 55 gal plastic drums would weigh more than a hundred pounds, themselves...

but as to the shipping. $600.00 for all doesn't seem terrible, but i'd still shop around. try Shenker SA... too, i don't know where the drums are destined after arrival in buenaventura.

once your drums have cleared customs in bv, you're issues have just begun. ground transport from the port to ?? is the real big issue. as they will be broken into and without a doubt, items will be missing. because they're not lockable containters, they are subject to pilferage. you can almost count on it. UNLESS, you or a friend accompany them inbound. that's the tough part. a container can be shipped 'in bond' from port to destination and remain locked, but boxes (barrels) are definately subject to prying eyes. and since the poor and dispossessed in colombia all need/want clothing, you're at risk of loss. i still suggest taking them as accompanied baggage if at all possible, as that way they're (the mdse) is with you all the way and arrives in tact. and i think you can carry 100#'s for no more than $600.00. remember, you will have at least $200.00 + for inbound transport +++ losses. think well about this before shipping.

good luck,
