Shipping with APX/DHL

I have been searching for reasonable shipping from the U.S. to Colombia (Bogota) and have run across this company called APX. The rates are much more reasonable for large amounts of personal effects and it seems perfectly legit. Has anyone ever heard anything about how they operate? All I am really looking for is a way to ship some extra things that won't send me to the poor house but also won't have all my stuff broken or stolen.
Any information would be helpful!

Shipping via DHL Never What ever you do don't ship anything via DHL or any major Air Freight Forwarder without being sure of the rates. Your post doesn't state your point of shipping but I am assuming the USA. Find a freight forwarder that can handle your shipment from any of COPA Airlines departure cities in the USA or Puerto Rico and ship by them as it (can) will cost you 2/3 less. COPA can't take freight from you direct but can accept it from a freight company (freight forwarder) for further shipment to you in Bogota. It's the cheapest airfreight that I know of. I receive a corporate discount from DHL and it still cost me $750 to ship several boxes of books, movies and business papers including customs clearance. After I saw the bill I fainted almost but started checking with COPA and they gave me the information and the contacts to bring the cost on a simular shipment to about $250. Please let me know what APx charges per lb. or kilo. DHL was about $2.50 lb into Medellin and the COPA route was less than .75 cents/lb. You could check with Avianca air freight department.

Freight Forwarders? "Absolutely"!!! Do a little finger work on the ole keyboard. You can find very reasonable freight forwarders (US to Colombia) in and around Miami, Fl or NYC, NY. Most are Colombian's living in the US. They know the in's and out's of exporting to Colombia. Using the major shipping company's (FedUp, UPyour'S or DHLost) will only cost you extreemly high rates. They all use local contract shippers inside Colombia and the risk of non delivery is still there! Using a Colombian freight forwarder gives you a better chance of getting your package(s) to their destination because they know that their business depends on their reputation. The major's could care less! They have your money and "someone" in Colombia has you package. I learned this the hard way!! Have never lost a package shipping with a Colombian freight forwarder and saved a ton of bucks!! Average is around $2.00 per pound delivered to the door.

ok... How does this work? I send the package through Federal Express and then Servientrega handles it inside Colombia?

I called them a few weeks ago... you get it to them however you want to, and they ship it to Colombia. It was like $1.80/lb plus another 28% on the value which sounds like a lot but it's way better than stuff I've used in the past. You can figure the cost ahead of time, or they'll figure it and bill you.

Servientrega in Miami Have used them exclusively the last 3 years. They do door to door guarenteed delivery. Never had a problem. That price has went up since I used them the last time--I will find the costs tomorrow for my items. In Miami,They are off the Palmetto expressway(826 south) nw 25st exit--east to 82ave--right next to Avianca air express-same building. I always take new labels off the items and claimed "used" to lower the cost. AM sending some things tomorrow with servientrega for St.Valentine's presents. One thing not to send at this time is Chocolate products. They do not like to accept it as they feel it competes with colombia's domestic chocolate industry. Strange but true, at least in my case.

APX nothing but headaches I can't comment on other shippers, but I am currently in the process of having my personal effects sent from the states to Athens, Greece via APX. The delivery time frame was 3-4 weeks, it has now been 6. Nobody can be bothered to return e-mails or calls, and after paying an arm and a leg for them to deliver and customs clearance my things, it looks like I have to drive around town gathering signatures, and paying "extra" for delivery. Besides the obvious dissatisfaction with not having my things arrive on schedule, I can tell you I can't imagine any other place having worse customer service. This is of course only my experience, but I know the same people I am trying to deal with at APX in the states are the same ones you will likely be dealing with. I would pass on these guys.

Prevoius Post disappeared anyhow-thanks for the heads up on APX, neighbors are always talking about shippers. Shipping Container sharing may be another avenue to look at, provided you have sufficient volume. Many Miami residents shipping to the Dom. Rep seem to think this is the cheapest way.

Freight Forwarders I deal only with Asia, but I'm getting involved with these folks. They might be able to help you all as well. Send your California friends to them, so I get the business !!!
