shipping times to colombia

the last time they sent me a letter to colombia it took over almost 2 month to arrive. It arrived pretty fast in Bogota, then it was inspected by DIAN although it contained only some papers. the inspection took a long time (over a month). Now I ordered a book in amazon.com. It should have arrived already. does DIAN inspect every single international shipment?

Amazon delivery estimate have worked for me The last book I purchased was shipped on April 25:

"Shipment #1: Shipped on April 25, 2007"

and the delivery estimate given by amazon was:

"Delivery estimate: May 11, 2007 - May 21, 2007"

And the book arrived on May 11 to my home in Cali.

Same here... Didn't have any problem with the Amazon.com (actually DHL's, in my case) delivery estimate during a recent purchase.

In my experience, letters can take a lot of time to arrive if you send them through the cheapest possible method (USPS?).

If you pay up a bit more or use a different courier it shouldn't take quite as long, but I suppose your mileage may vary.

I don't believe DIAN inspects every single shipment though...

Then if it doesn't arrive this week... ...you might want to contact whoever the courier is directly, as they could tell you if it's been delayed by customs or if something else is at work.

I'd try to use Servientrega No matter what I purchased, I'd try to send it through Servientrega. Gets there fast and secure. Maybe you could have the Amazon seller send it to them, and you pay the extra it would cost for them to send it to you. I guess it depends upon how quickly you need it, but I have found them to be fast and much cheaper than DHL.

2 weeks to 4 months Over a period of two years I sent through the United States Postal Service approximately 200 letters and 50 packages. The shortest time was 2 weeks. The longest time was 4 months. At one time I kept track of 100 of the letters using numbered envelopes. Only 77% arrived.

The book still didn't arrive. Amazon told me that it appeared that the package is lost.

"Please note that Deutsche Post carries shipments to the destination
country, but the final delivery is handled by your local postal
service. Please check with your local post office to confirm that
the package is lost."

I wonder what the local post office is?
