I want to send a 4 bedroom house worth of stuff to Colombia. Sofas chairs, table, beds, etc..
does anyone have any idea approximately how much this might cost? I'm just looking for a rough guess, and any help for calculating would be good also, say if I want only send two bedrooms..
Thanks.

Miguel_Clavo says on Apr 14, 2006, 17:38: I had one estimate last month from San Francisco CA to Buenaventura for one 20 ft shipping container, including door service to Manizales for just under $10,000 for 4 bedrooms without a vehicle...ouch! i am seriously considering just saving the shipping money to buy things there other than the things i seriously want with me in Colombia. $10k can buy alot of furnishings in Colombia! Miguel says on Apr 14, 2006, 18:12: Yeah, think it through If you want to ship to Colombia, I highly recommend Servientrega, yet like Miguel_Clavo said, you probably will be better off to liquidate in the States and purchase what you need in Colombia.

ColombiaBoard says on Apr 15, 2006, 13:42: Container 10K is not really that much, it's about 23.5 million pesos, see how much you can buy with that, I mean, you're talking about a "4 bedroom house" furniture, I guess that's a lot of beds, tables, sofas, chairs, maybe refrigerator, washing machine, etc.? if you're bringing appliances then I think it's worth paying those 10K.

z_gringo says on Apr 15, 2006, 14:19: Well it doesn't sound worth it. I'd only be shipping some of the furniture, and other household items. It sounds like it would be cheaper to just buy new stuff in Colombia. It would all be going ot Pereira, so the port would have to be Buenaventura.

Miguel_Clavo says on Apr 15, 2006, 17:51: I would bring in electrical appliances, stereo components,.. and especially computer related items (wireless setup, printers and the like) it has been my experience that the higher quality electronics like the above are not readily available, and you could spend many days trying to hunt down what you could bring. i was also told that if you are shipping less than 300 lbs then you should consider air freight forwarder to get it their, as it would cost the same but you would have it quicker. For the heavy furniture you should add your stuff to a LFC (less than full container) and pay a prorated cost for shipping inside of someone elses partially empty trailer.... SingSling says on Apr 15, 2006, 21:27: Don't forget to add... My stuff arrived in Pereira two weeks ago having been shipped from Spain. Door to door was around 10,000 euros but you have to add on taxes which seem to be made up on the spot in Buenavetura, make sure you have the proper paperwork. Currently it is costing me 250,000 pesos per month for storage as the house isn't ready yet but sounds like you are moving stuff straight in.

Miguel_Clavo says on Apr 17, 2006, 09:24: Efmap: tranquillo,Senor. I sent a package to my office in Cartagena on March 17, air parcel via USPS, and it still has not arrived! The time included does not include Customs delays, which is like playing Russian Roulette. The only thing you can do is request a tracer (1-800-222-1811 USA, you will need the CP #))from the USPS, which means that they send a request to Colomian postal to locate the package, however, Colombia postal can take up to 60 days before they are required to respond according to International agreements.
