.....I know there has been all sorts of stuff on this topic.....however....... I can't seem to get definite answers from all sorts of authorities........I'm going to fly back to Medellin tomorrow........a shipper in Miami will crate and ship the bike.......I get some sort of customs agent in Medellin to process the paperwork for a temp permit ( same duration as my tourist visa )..........bike is relesaed to me and I am off on my way................Does this seem correct....has anyone done the same?
Many thanks....

vicshere says on Aug 8, 2007, 16:32: its not that simple....you will have to leave a nice deposit on the bike at the DIAN...plus you will have to pay the SOAT insurance....remember those customs agent charge a pretty penny to complete those DIAN forums listo |
|
RAAAY says on Aug 8, 2007, 17:47: ...any idea what is a " nice deposit "..................... and what might a " pretty penny " be........................thanks for your help........ .........Its useless to argue with ignorance |

vicshere says on Aug 8, 2007, 18:27: I am going to guess but I would say 4,000 k US dollars in deposit and the documents you can throw about 200 to 330 bucks at it listo |

RAAAY says on Aug 8, 2007, 18:42: ??????????????................shhhiiiiitttttttttt...................any idea how I can get an accurate figure.....?? .........Its useless to argue with ignorance |
|
vicshere says on Aug 8, 2007, 18:45: if the bike is stolen your out your deposit ..... your shipper in Miami should a broker in Colombia probably Bogotá...then the documents are sent to a customs agent.....as far as I know...remember your bike is worth...depending on the year ...40-50 million pesos...so all deposits are based on that value listo |

BAQ says on Aug 9, 2007, 16:29: you guys crach me up. Everyone os so stucl on wanting to ship something here. Just suck up and buy a new one while you are here, and sell it if you ever leave. Importing something SPECIAL spells disaster.. Firts, buy a BIG BIG BIG sign in spanish that says STEAL ME FIRST and place it on your car, truck SUV or motorcycle. Then, when you need a part for repair, sit back and wait and pay the IMPORT TAX on the part, plus shipping ect. Semper Fidelis ! |

RAAAY says on Aug 9, 2007, 20:11: Ken.................let me know were your bar is.........I'll be there with the Goldwing............and if the damn thing is stolen from outside I'll get a taxi home.................and BAQ..........home is in Colombia..............so why don't you join me in Ken's bar.............my bike will be arriving here Monday or Tuesday..........we can sit in Ken's joint and see how long it takes for the f--kin thing to get stolen......................... .........Its useless to argue with ignorance |
|
RAAAY says on Aug 10, 2007, 09:23: .....no pm as of yet Ken................looks like I'm going to have to embark on a pub crawl around Medellin................how long will it take me to find your joint........and what condition will I be in when I do..........? .........Its useless to argue with ignorance |

BAQ says on Aug 10, 2007, 10:01: OK STUDENTS, now take notes Semper Fidelis ! |

BAQ says on Aug 10, 2007, 10:12: RAAAY, my apology, you wont have any problems, park it anyplace you like, you will be fine Semper Fidelis ! |

vicshere says on Aug 10, 2007, 10:14: Hey BAQ my thoughts exactly.....you know I have been trying to bring my 30 year old bike (Suzuki 850cc 1979) from Canada for 5 years now...and various times guys on here say it can be done...I am still waiting for someone anyone to tell me how I can do it....I am willing to bend over backwards to....if you have the money to buy a new bike in the US and then go through the trouble of bring it into the country why not just buy a new one...a new bike around 600cc should be had for about 20,000,000 and you know you can get parts for it...I have my eye on a Suzuki 650 highway police type bike 2004 the guy is asking for 14,000,000.....sure better than my 125cc hog listo |
|
RAAAY says on Aug 10, 2007, 10:22: ..............my my ...................BAQ.............you are a tad testy today.............you climb out of the wrong side of the bed this morning..?? .........Its useless to argue with ignorance |
|
vicshere says on Aug 10, 2007, 10:26: RAAY what I would like to see is a real report after you bring your bike in and then leave with it...but I think if anything negative happens we will not hear about it listo |
|
RAAAY says on Aug 10, 2007, 10:28: Hey Vic............someone told me once that there is some way of bringing in older bikes.............don't know how true it is......something to do with classics or historical or something...........there is a guy down by San Diego mall here that has a collection of older bikes that keeps getting bigger..............anyway...like I say..............I've no idea how true this is...........but I'm sure some Harley guy would know............ .........Its useless to argue with ignorance |
|
JorgeBogota says on Aug 10, 2007, 10:45: I have to agree with BAQ on this one. I do not know where the other fellow is living but it must be a very secure neighborhood. The car and motorcycle theft problem in Colombia is one of the worst in the world. Colombia is the only place I know where the insurance companies pay to have the license plate number of the car or motorcycle engraved on all the parts, the glass, ect to try and keep the thefts down. Just because your motorbike is on of a kind wont prevent it from theft. MOTORS are a hot item, I can see the thief taking your Honda only for the motor and possibly the tires. The other type of thief would use it as a play toy up in the mountians, away from the city in a smaller pueblo.

RAAAY says on Aug 10, 2007, 15:23: Some people will not fly because there is a chance of the plane going down.............some people will not ride motorcycles because it comes with certain dangers...........some won't climb mountains or scuba dive because of the dangers..........I fly planes...... climb mountains.......scuba dive and ride motorcycles.............the way I see it.........if s--t is going to happen....well....it's going to happen.............If I come back to where I parked ...........and there is an empty spot where my bike used to be....................... and all I am left with is the ignition key and fond memories......well......so be it........I'll go for another beer and whine a little..............I just don't believe in the notion that you should not have something or do something......because of what might happen......................there are 100,000 bikes stolen every year in the States..........that's way more than here, even per head of capita............everything comes with a little risk..............f--k....have you ever tried to walk across the street in Laureles..? .........Its useless to argue with ignorance |
