I just returned from Cali. Weight limit for me was 2 checked bags max. 70 lbs ea., one carry on, no weight limit- I just had to be able to carry it and make sure it fits in overhead. (They were checking carry on baggage size on one leg of my trip). My friend was 9.5 lbs overweight, and it cost her $100- thats $10 per lb. Seems steep to me.
Also, my friend going in Dec. was told they were not accepting boxes as checked luggage. Make sure to check with your airline if its not a suitcase.

I just got back from Colombia... When I went down, I had three bags, that's one over the normal limit. Ended up paying $100 extra for that third bag, but it was worth it in my case. When I returned to the States, only had two bags, so I didn't have to pay the extra again.

I'd sugguest calling your airline to find out what their rates might be...be sure that you tell them where you're going b/c some rates are different for travel to Latin America than other areas of the world. Hope that helps!
