Shakira unplugged

Shakira was on MTV the other night, doing her unplugged "live" thing. I was absolutely glued to my TV.

I sat there for a good 20 minutes, then I thought, "Hang on gringolondinense! what the bloody **** are you watching this crap for?". Well, ask a silly question - I kind of already knew why I was watching - she was crowbarred into a pair of leather pants 3 sizes too small, shaking her ass, cavorting up and down and her top kept riding up her toned abs and she had to keep pulling it down.

But when i actually saw (or heard) through my hormone induced state, I thought, "God what a load of crap!". I mean the songs were pure shite and she wasnt singing too well either. I might as well have been listening to a crying baby. Or, even worse, Bon Jovi.

Dude, that's the saddest story I've ever heard.

I had a similar experience while watching Mick Jagger - it was just HORRIBLE.

I had to wait for a whole ten seconds before the guys holding the GUN TO MY HEAD looked away just long enough for me to change the channel.

The world is filled with spectacularly successful pop and rock acts that can't sing. Goat Girl is no different than Madonna or the Rolling Stones. If you can't sing - your stage show, tight pants, big hair, boobs, nostalgia, and sometimes even your music (sans voice) will get you through. Haha.

I was sure Shakira could sing? Maybe all the jumping around affected her voice? Try singing while writhing around like that..give her a break...

I heard Cristina Aguilera sing once live, no music, wow! what a voice.

I like most of Shakira's music but regret buying her last two albums. I think she's a little like Madonna - in a narrow range, her voice is fine - but she pushes it and then sounds terrible. The bleating/Goat Girl thing is not something I thought up, but it's certainly evident in some of her songs.

Well I remember when her album came out, Pies Descalzos, my friends and I thought it was so cool, loved the lyrics and style of her singing as both were original but her style has changed very much since then and she has "sexified" herself, which she does very well but I think I liked the original songs and Shakira better.

I still do like her songs now but sometimes I think she focuses too much on her Lebanese side, like when she did Hips Don't Lie there were cumbia dancer's in the video but then in the concerts she would come out with belly dancer's..

thats it!! it was a goatish sort of singing. I think coz it was all unplugged, she changed her style to that of a goat. Basically it was just weird..she didnt sing any of her normal stuff.

Oh yer mona, she did that belly dance thing and put on the gold wrap around thing with tassels,,,,whatever its called. But its another excuse to do more ass shaking lol. Not that I object to that of course.

Has anybody here ever actually sat down and watched MTV ????

The crap that passes for MUSIC these days is nothing more than soft porn with a beat. The reason musical artists have taken this route is that music is now all about economics and sex sells.

The demographic of horny, testosterone driven, adolescent men with credit cards is now the number one target market in the world and Shakira knows it.

It's not that she's not as gifted as she once was. She's just taken a executive decision to shift the focus away from her singing and towards baring her more lucrative assets.

I for one don't watch music videos anymore.

Shakira has the goat voice and I always thought Stevie Nicks had the sheep voice. Imagine those two together!

I like the DVD that came out back in 2004, Live and off the record, lots of nice eye candy and the music is pretty good. Her band rocks and so does she. She plays the freaking drums, too.

Yes Miguel, I was. I saw Klinger in M.A.S.H. belly dance on one episode. He was a well known for being Lebanese.

Sorry, just my poor attempt at humor.

gringolindinense, as far a I know, the only MTV unplugged that Shaki did was in August 12, 1999, when she was 22 years old. And there isn't any info about a new second MTV unplugged.
If you are talking about that concert, well...I disagree with you. That concert was excellent. She song all the songs from Donde estan los ladrones, and one from Pies Descalzos. (Estoy aqui). Precisely, this were the best two albums from her.

Last week I tried to listen to the concert of The Police...it was pathetic. Lamentable. ¿Los viste?

Lucas - I saw the Police in concert this year in Houston and I thought they were fantastic! Much better than I would've imagined. I've talked to others who have seen them in concert in other locations and they concur.

Me da rabia ver como destrozan canciones como Regatta de Blanc, Message in a bottle, Sincronicity, Don't stand so close to me.

Si a vos te gustó, me parece genial.

Lucas, to me a band should not be the same as they were 25 years ago. I do not expect their songs to sound exactly the same and I appreciate improvements that they make to their classics. Yes, Message in a Bottle has a very different and slower arrangement than the original. I like them both. Yes, Sting is arrogant, but you know he was much less arrogant that I would've expected (now Darryl Hall from Hall & Oates is really arrogant). He could've taken the stage and turned it into the Sting with members of the Police, but he didn't. IMHO, all 3 shined on stage. Granted, we were about 15 rows up to the right of the stage so we had great seats, which I think helps you connect to the performance more than if you were sitting in the back of the arena.

I'm old enough to remember the Police from the 80's (I'm in my 40's) although I never saw them in concert back then. It was a treat to see them perform together again live and I'd see them again if given another opportunity.

And yes, Gabo, I would agree that Shakira is hot. I still think that video she did with Beyonce (the Houston girl) is terrific. Two gorgeous women.

MTV shows music videos? When did that happen? I haven't seen a music video on MTV in at least 10 years. IMF does show music videos nonstop. They have a program called "Passage to India" that shows music videos from India with some smoking hot babes! Damm, they're bootylicious.

Me encantan Out of touch y Method of modern love. Y hace dos años vi a Simple Minds...triste...Si me gustó Duran Duran y New Order. Esos salieron bien. Claro U2 fue excelente también. Y Roger Waters increible.
