I thought that Shakira had "jumped the shark", according to some music "experts" on this site...shows you what they know...

I love Shakira!!

There is nothing wrong with... her booty. I agree with that and I also agree she sings like a goat. It is just sad that she is the face of Colombia (more or less) in the eyes of the pop world. Juanes or Carlos Vives are sooooo much more talented.

A question for you "music experts" ¿Me recomienda un cd de una cabra? Freaking Bob Dylan can't sing his ass out of a paper cup, but what does that matter? He connects and so does Shakira.

SweetNess says on Sep 23, 2005, 11:21:

Her way of singing is one of the things that makes her so unique. She doesn't sing like everyone else and her songs touch on many topics. Granted, not just any one person should be posted as the "face of Colombia"... that doesn't make sense for a country so diverse. I definitley don't mind her being such a strong representative though. She is gorgeous in more ways than physical, she's intelligent, thoughtful, philosophical, sexy, graceful and many other things. She's not just lip-syncing to pre-fabricated pop tunes that all say the same thing. (Did I mention she sexy as hell???) Anyways, she may not be no Juanes or Carlos Vives, but why should she be to earn respect. They can't be her either and that's a good thing.

Miguel says on Sep 23, 2005, 11:27:

Best thing about Shakira It's hard for this old gringo to say, because those moves she makes in La Tortura drive me crazy, BUT she gives back to Barranquilla and all of Colombia with cold hard cash via her foundation.

bkelly says on Sep 23, 2005, 13:50:

Bob Dylan sings like a goat too Hey, I am not a music critic and I never claimed to be. I think Shakira has talent, and I even think some of her songs are good, especially the older stuff. BUT...she does have a "goaty" voice. I agree that Dylan sings a goat, and he can be annoying.

I agree with you Miguel. But I am proud of guys like Juanes that truly give back to their country. Shakira is seen as a sell out by many. That does not diminish her popularity or make her a bad person though.

bkelly What part of my post about Shakira giving back to Barranquilla and Colombia in general didn't you get??? BTW I'm down with Juanes and Carlos Vives, as well. Egidio Cuadrado is the Eric Clapton of the acordeon.

Miguel I get what you said, but reread my comment...I meant to express that Juanes and Vives give more than just cash. They give blood, sweat and tears for their country.

what bkelly??? "I get what you said, but reread my comment...I meant to express that Juanes and Vives give more than just cash. They give blood, sweat and tears for their country."

What the f*&k does THAT mean??? Juanes & Vives give blood for their country?? When and where did this happen??

BTW: I DO like Juanes & Carlos Vives...but I guarantee you, they wouldn't turn down the deals that Shakira has gotten, and if they didn't, that wouldn't make them "sell-outs"...

Actually...your wrong greenday Juanes was offered a huge sum of money to do a crossover CD and he said no.

BxUnika says on Sep 24, 2005, 15:59:

I Agree When Shakira became "big", her music lost something. I mean, I happen to think "Laundry Service" wwas excellent for a girl who just two years prior could not speak a word of English. But I have listened to the tracks from "Fijicion Oral" many times and none of them really have any substance. "La Tortura" receives a lot of radio play and it's catchy, so one would expect that the rest of the album experiments with different musical sounds in the typical Shakira way. No. They all pretty much sound the same. even Soda Stereo's Gustavo Cerati, whom I think is excellent, could not save that album. It's just...it's really lacks something. One sound is not too distinguishable from another and it's not as experimental or urgent as the other albums. Donde Estan Los ladrones? was really the climax.

greenday says on Sep 24, 2005, 18:03:

bkelly?? I'm wrong about what?? I'm sure you don't know the EXACT details of the offer made to Juanes, nor if it was a HUGE amount to him, or the amount of control he was to be given over the project...there are a hundred reasons why an artist will turn down an offer, and money isn't always the factor...post something up to substantiate your post and his reasons for turning down the offer.

But you STILL haven't explained your quote regarding Juanes & Vives "shedding their blood"...explain what THAT'S about...

And BxUnika..."Donde están los ladrones" is the climax to Shakira's career??? Please....you people kill me...

Greenday I was going to leave this thread after it became obvious bkelly was determined to have the last word. Thanks for expressing my sentiments and tu tienes razon..."you people kill me". Shakira, at 28 has lots of music left in her.

SweetNess says on Sep 25, 2005, 10:14:

Fijicion Oral I do agree with Bx that this latest album of hers is lacking somewhat. I bought it waiting to hear all kinds of crazy ish, and one of the things that dissapointed me is how some of the songs were just a different version of a song earlier in the CD. It's nice to hear different versions of a song, but I don't think that it should take up a 3rd of an album either. I dunno if she rushed this latest album or what. I love some of the songs, but I agree that it's not as good as the others.

Monpirri says on Sep 26, 2005, 15:48:

Three great talents but in different categories... I like Carlos Vives and Juanes, both are great talents!!! but both together do not amount to the popularity of Shakira. She has been around longer and has won more music awards and has made more humanitarian contributions. At this point, they cannot be placed together in the same category with Shakira, maybe in the future.

Shakira funding new school
Sep 11, 2005, 13:01 GMT

Big-hearted Latin star Shakira is paying to have a brand new school built in her home town Barranquilla, Colombia.

The Laundry Service singer is so proud of her modest roots, she is determined to pour much-needed cash into the poverty-stricken area through her own charity, the Barefeet Foundation.

She says, "I never want to forget where I come from.

"I'm very proud to be Colombian and very proud of my city Barranquilla."

Although USA Today has called her the "Latina Alanis Morissette" and comparisons have been made to Janis Joplin, Colombian singing sensation Shakira is far more ethereal and otherworldly than these comparisons suggest. Shakira Mebarak released her first album in Colombia at age 13. Fancying herself a true "artista," Shakira has been dancing, writing and singing since age three and continues to write all of her own music. Shakira won the 2001 Best Latin pop Grammy for her "MTV Unplugged" album. Her career received a boost when she was named Latin Female Artist of the Year at the 1998 World...

The Last Word? You people are too sensitive. SInce when am I ever determined to have the last word. Obviously you don't know me. This may be the last post I ever make to this site.

To clear up my statement...Juanes and Vives are here in Colombia. They are physically present and do benefits for the poor. They are on-site at various places in Colombia. Juanes is on-tour now and his tour is all about his sangre or roots in Colombia. I am not diminishing was Shakira is doing financially for Colombia, but sending money and being here are two different things.

Also, I never said Shakira was finished or lacked talent. Perhaps you just want to hear your own opinion?

And please, no more bullshit about the last word.

Been There Done That Benefiet Concert in Colombia

van SHAKIRAMEDIA.COM:

"Shakira will be performing at a 2-day concert in Bogota, Colombia later this year, on September 17 and 18. Some of the money raised will benefit Shakira's "Pies Descalzos" Foundation, which supports child victims of violence in Colombia. Apparently, Shakira has agreed to help arrange for other artists to appear, including the likes of Britney Spears, Ricky Martin and Norah Jones (who are yet to be confirmed as appearing)."

bkelly I'm still waiting to hear from you about the "shedding of blood" by Juanes & Vives...
I would also venture to say that Juanes & Vives more than likely don't live in Colombia anymore due to security risks...It would be impossible for Shakira to live safely on Colombia.
If they haven't "sold-out" yet, if they get as popular as Shakira, I'm sure they will...and why wouldn't they?? Look at all the good they could do for Colombia with the money they make "selling out"...just like Shakira is...

Also my friend, you started this by calling Shakira a "sell-out"..which is quite an insult, and offended many here on this site...I'm sure you would never have the balls to say that to her face if you ever had the priviledge to meet her...Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out...

Bkelly, if you decide not to post here anymore, please find another site full of folks who just fell off the turnip truck, OK?? That way you'll fell better posting such BS... Because you certainly don't know what you're talking about when it comes to this subject...

Let's see, bkelly... Once again you prove your need to "have the last word".
For the record, Shakira and Carlos Vives have homes in Miami, as well as in Colombia. Juanes lives in Los Angeles and of course, still calls Medellín home.
Grab a mitt and get in the game.

I will, TO ME she has no voice, her songs are annoying. She's got a great bod with lots of plastic surgery on her face.

I find nothing, absolutely nothing redeeming about Shakira musically.
