Shakira is not showing up... =0

Hello everybody,

I confess I like Shakira's music, I think she is a smart pop-singer who has some other comment different than saying "oh I am so fat!".

Just today I learned that she is not showing this Sunday in the concert that Juanes and some other artists are giving.

I don't like Juanes' music however he is always doing something for his country (I guess) Sad that Shakira will not be there too, I am beginning to think that she indeed pays lip service to the fact of beign colombian.

Sad but true

I know she would love to be there, sometimes you can do only one thing at the time.

Perhaps she is a person not to shirk prior commitments? This is a very hurridly prepared event, and she is most likely booked a couple years out.

But, good for her, although I would imagine that she would love to be there.

I like what I have heard of Juanes (a single song), but not a huge fan of Shakira, as a singer. But as a person, for sure!

ok, maybe I was too radical, I am a big fan of hers, maybe I was a little bit disappointed

Shakira gives 1000 x more to Colombia then anyother Colombian ever has.
She is listed in several articules about her charitaable giving, she is the list of most charitable
stars.
I am not a fan Shakiras Musica or Jaunes music, but he is not even in the same league as
Shakira when it comes to helping Colombia.s poor.

Shakira Foundation Shimmies Up $45 Million for Charity
Posted Sep 29th 2007 3:30PM by TMZ Staff

Her hips don't lie and neither does her wallet! Shapely Colombian pop singer Shakira dug deep in her foundation's bank account and donated $45 million to charity on Friday.

The sexy singer announced the donation during Friday's Clinton Global Initiative meeting. Forty million will go to Nicaragua and Peru to address recent natural disasters there, and an additional $5 million will go to educational projects benefiting children across Latin America. Move over Angelina!

Shakira's a serial do-gooder: She's the co-founder of the Latin America for Solidarity Foundation, which helps impoverished communities across Latin America,

If one spends anytime in Colombia outside the 4 big cities, they stand a good chance of seeing Shakira's charities in action.

What more can be said?

She should be cannonized as the Patron Saint of Colombia (or the Americas?).

de pronto says on Mar 14, 2008, 16:33:

Wow I hear you sloopskipper but to tell you the truth my friend (colombian) and I are always "arguing" because she literally hates Shakira, she says that "this witch" is not colombian and that she does not have colombian accent, blah, blah, blah maybe she just doesn't like her music =)

so when I learned that she was not showing up in the said concert, I remembered my friend's words, nice of her that she is doing good actions for the people of her country.

The other day I was watching an interview and she started to talk about William Blake! and I said: "a pop star talking about William Blake?" that is one of the reasons I think I could get along with her LOL

Latin star Shakira to build school Markey in Colombia | November 16, 2006

THOUSANDS of poor Colombian children could soon have the chance to get a decent education in the heart of their Caribbean barrio thanks to a local girl-made-good - Latin Grammy winner Shakira.

Shakira, famous for her hip-swiveling, belly-undulating dancing, plans to open a school for nearly 2000 pupils in her hometown of Barranquilla as part of a program to educate children displaced by Colombia's conflict.

"Education is not a luxury, it is a right everyone should have," Shakira told reporters on Wednesday before a concert that will raise funds for the Barranquilla school.

The abandoned, crumbling telecommunications outpost that will become the site of the school in La Playa barrio is the most ambitious project in her Fundacion Pies Descalzos, "Barefoot Foundation" in Spanish. She has opened five smaller schools in Colombia.

The Colombian singer and songwriter dominated the recent Latin Grammys in New York by winning four awards and dazzling spectators with a sexy live performance.

Her album Fijacion Oral Vol. 1 captured album of the year and best female pop vocal album, and the single La Tortura won record of the year and song of the year at the Grammys. The album's engineers also won a Grammy.

Barranquilla, a rough-and-tumble harbour town, has been plagued by cocaine smuggling and violence from paramilitaries who until recently battled left-wing FARC guerrillas in Latin America's longest insurgency.

Fighting in Colombia has decreased under President Alvaro Uribe, a conservative who has led a US-backed drive to combat the rebels, disarm paramilitaries and tackle the drug trade.

But thousands of Colombians are still displaced or killed every year. Landmines maim an average of three Colombians every day.

The United Nations refugee agency estimates that as many as 3 million people have been forced from their homes by Colombia's violence. Many set up home in marginal barrios in cities like Barranquilla, which local officials say has received around 60,000 displaced families in the last decade.

La Playa, a clutch of low, cinder block houses near the Caribbean sea, is home to many families who fled violence. Local schools, like Colegio El Canahuate are run-down, overcrowded and lacking basic facilities. Many residents hope Shakira's new project will change that.

"This school is so small, we have to perform magic here," said director Aldor Carrillo, who has scores of displaced children in his school. "The street outside is the soccer pitch, where they do sports, gym and where they hold their social events."

The Pies Descalzos Foundation says the new school will initially house 1800 pupils when it opens in early 2008.

Standing near the school site, Samaris Betancourth, a 28-year-old mother of two, said, "The only thing I want to leave my kids is a good education."

I told my friend, well Shakira is in love with an argentinian you cannot blame her for having argentinian accent.

When I go to Colombia I tend to speak "like" a colombian, and my friend tends to speak "like" a mexican, this is so funny

I saw Ciega SordoMuda on VH1 in 1999. I recorded the video. I had no idea what she was saying and I thought the video was stupid but her voice, the beat and those Mexican horns were awesome. Now that I know what she's saying I love the song even more.

I bought Ladrones a few weeks later and it is still my fav Shakira album.

Ojos Asi is such a cool freakin' song and was so big in hipster lounge clubs in the meat packing district s in 2002. I remmeber hearing it out and saying "HEY! this song is old and you are just playing it now!!?" I thought I was the shit because I "discovered" it years earlier. Oh well now I'm just a little shit.

I just have to post this vid - how can you NOT dance to this song? Something Juanes will never do is a song with a beat like this:

"World economic indicators point to a democrat winning 2008. It will surely be Obama. Peso 1400 by November" Feb 5, 2008

guys what do you think of her latest singles "la despedida" and the other song (I forgot the name) from the Love in the time of cholera?

I really like Shakira's music, I personally love "Fijación Oral Vol. I" because that is when I visited Colombia for the first time, every track makes me remind my friends, ajiaco, bandeja paisa, arepas, transmilenio, 85th st, Zipaquirá, aguardiente, hot male colombians (hahahahaha) el corral hamburguers, Monserrate, etc etc etc etc etc.

When I listen to this album I travel to Bogota, nice memories.

Video above, 'Hay Amores full" has an error. They have, hay mi bien instead of "hay mi PIEL"
