Shakira and Bill Clinton Unite

Shakira and Bill Clinton Unite

The Colombian singer spoke on behalf of the ALAS foundation at a New York event organized by the former president

Singer Shakira made a visit to the Clinton Global Initiative conference on Wednesday, a New York event organized by former President Bill Clinton that addressed issues like global warming and humanitarianism.

The 30-year-old performer announced that the ALAS (América Latina en Acción Solidaria) foundation will donate $40 million to assist victims of the Aug. 15 earthquake in Peru. The entire donation will go to the Red Cross and to housing construction in the hopes of aiding the more than 70,000 families affected by the disaster.

Clinton and Shakira’s work will continue in New York on Saturday when the two meet with celebrities like Bono, Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Wyclef at the Apollo Theater, where the group will discuss how young people can get involved with global issues. The event is being organized by MTV.

I don´t like shakira. But that´s a nice gesture with our peruvians brothers.

at Nati: You can blame me. I was one of the few thousand votes that didn't get counted until 1am or so in 2000, election night. Northwest Florida, but in the CENTRAL time zone. Remember? They called Florida for Gore before counting the central time zone counties.
