SEX strike in COLOMBIA

Gang men face sex strike

GANG members in one of Colombia's most violent cities have been given an ultimatum: give up guns or give up sex.

In what is being called Pereira's "strike of crossed legs", supported by the city mayor's office, the wives and girlfriends of gang members have said they will not have sex with their partners until they vow to give up violence.

"We want them to know that violence is not sexy," said Jennifer Bayer, 18, the girlfriend of a gang member.

She and at least 24 other women have said the sex strike will continue until their men hand over their weapons and sign up for vocational training offered by the mayor's office.

The women have launched a rap song that will become the strike's anthem. "As women we are worth a lot. We don't want to fall for violent men because with them we lose too much," Ms Bayer sings.

She said the men laughed about the strike but would soon see it was serious. The women were not worried that frustration would lead to violence against them. "They wouldn't do that to us," Ms Bayer said.

The city's security secretary, Julio Cesar Gomez, said surveys of gang members showed that their favourite activity was having sex and that gang membership was more about power and sexual seduction than money.

Pereira has Colombia's highest murder rate.

Old news. The strike is over and everybody got fucked. Some people had sex too.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

I heard the same story years ago ... but it was supposedly in LA or somewhere else in the US. Basically a bunch of crap. Like there is a regional, unionized movement of women, based upon withholding sex from their scumbag novios for whatever. The first time I heard this story had to have been 15 years ago. It was around the same time I heard not to flash brights at a car, because they would then target you for execution as a gang initiation.

Rodadero - I came across as abrasive ... nothing personal. And I don't doubt the story is "true." But, I remember the exact, identical story / situation in LA back in '90s. Or, if I am wrong, it was another major US city like NYC or Miami. Anyway, the story is stupid. Not your posting it. I find your posts interesting and keep 'em coming. But, the story is silly to the point of being embarrassing. Like narcotraficantes and mafiosos are really going to be shut down because their wife won't put out. They already have a dozen other chicks on the side. Hell, the wives refusing sex would just give the gansters an excuse to get a little more action on the side. It is a feel good article, coming from an obscure part of a country that has dramatic appeal to ignorant, CNN watching gringos.

Which is it? Quote from above:
Pereira has Colombia's highest murder rate."

In another post about visiting the area people keep stating how the people of the Pereira are so friendly and it is a safe place. So what is it? Does anyone have statistics?
