Seven Sisters

Is a barrio in north London. It hosts the renowned Colombian Market, which I finally got round to visiting for the first time last week. Amazing- the sights, sounds, smells, tastes- it was like wandering into downtown Cali. I had chicharron, salad, rice, frijoles, an egg, and a juice for only £5! Great stuff. My wife had her hair done at the peluqueria while I had a beer in the Colombian pub (and a chance to leer at the young Colombianitas-in-exile without La Kalder elbowing me in the throat). Then off to buy a stack of Colombian DVDs. A cheap and very cheerful way to spend a wet afternoon in London. Highly recommended.

Seriously, never made it there. Whenever I've passed by, I've always made a mental note to visit - maybe next time.

I gather the Seven Sisters is much the larger of the markets. It was great fun. I'm going to go again soon.

Thanks American.

I've just had a look at your adoption thread. If the council were handing out £400 a week, I'd adopt Sam Salmon.

Only the Colombians that no longer want to be Colombian go to London.

kalder says on Apr 17, 2008, 06:05:

The old question of how many Colombians in London?

Well, La Camp's depiction of 200,000 living in southeast London alone, serviced by endless rows of salsatecas, tiendas and pandelarias is a bit of a stretch. But a university Sociology dept. did conduct an investigation that suggests that there are maybe 200,000 in the country as a whole, the majority living in London.

dwmte7- In the London I grew up in, it certainly was a case of stewed greens and chewy meat. To me food was an ordeal until I took up with an Italian girl. Thanks largely to foreign cuisines becoming mainstream, food in England is OK now.

kalder says on Apr 17, 2008, 06:11:

Elmo's a cheeky scamp. But it'd be interesting to know how many UK Colombians would prefer to live in the States. If you eliminated the 'grass is always greener' element, it'd be intriguing to see what imagined benefits they'd see in moving over there. Well, Kat's supplied one- easier travel back home. But if you asked me, if you took NYC as an example, I imagine life there and life in London would be pretty much the same. I expect the Miami thing would appeal to the party crowd.

london is gotta be a very nice place for londoners.
my brother was stationed (USA Navy) in scotland for a couple years. after 9 month he tried to commit suicide by swalllowing a dozen nails.
I asked him. why?
he told me that he was so fokin bored in europe he could not take it anymore.
I says "no, why did you swallow all those nails? why not just blow your fokin head off with your navy issued side arm?"
He did not really want to die, only to be stationed back in puerto rico or san diego california,
They shipped him off to Orlando, where he decided to stay after his tour was over

thank you

Well, I guess anybody loving Bogota's weather, would also love London's one. No problem.

Swallowed nails because he was miserable in Scotland and had to get out. I had to get up and walk that laughter off.

Elmo, did your brother get a medical discharge, a section 8, or a dishonorable discharge. Certainly they didn't just overlook his suicide attempt. Unless he didn't report it and passed the nails in a bowel movement.

really I don't live in London but i have noticed many people go to Hyde park there are beautiful parks in London so maybe you ca spend a beautiful day there.

In wales well we have the Brecon beacons we go climbing, around were i live we have activities like trekking , kayaking, canoing, bike paths, mountaineering and we have the River Wye near so many people do picnics or BBQ by the river, lots of outdoors cafes I don't mind the UK when the weather is nice people seem to come out of their holes and do lots of stuff

summers in london can be very hot. People usually go to parks for picnics, go shopping, wear very skimpy outfits...party more. I love London summers. Only thing is London is not used to these new type of summers and its often difficult to find a/c'ed places.
